Can someone cash out all their lines of credit, credit cards, etc and then hide the cash somewhere and say they already spent it during bankruptcy proceedings? Would that wipe away the $100k and they could invest it somewhere safe? Is there a better way to do this? The money would be needed for retirement.

We lost our mother last year and she left us some money invested in mutual funds. State estate taxes were paid. The funds were transfered within the brokerage and invested in the same and similar funds under our individual names. They have appreciated about 4% this year. What do we pay taxes on; the original amount AND the gains, or just the gains?

Can you tell me how I go about assuming the lease? The manager of the mobile home park is unfortunately out of the office until friday and I need to do this today!! Would a letter stating that I have purchased the mobile home and agree to assume the current lease drafted by myself or the current owner and signed by the two of us be sufficient ?

What do you all think about abolishing the tax code as it stands now, and implementing a Federal tax on purchases, all purchases. This can be added to the state tax you pay at the counter. Then it would be a fair tax across the board. You buy, you pay tax. The more you spend, the more you pay. Eliminates the write off's the rich use to avoid taxes.

One person invests $1200 at the end of every year from 40 years. A
second person invests $100 at the end of every month for 40 years. Another person invests
$200 at the end of every month for 20 years. All three receive 6% interest compounded
continuously. Compare the individuals’ savings at the end of the time periods.

I found that an old company that my mom used to work for gave me a savings bond when I was born. I recently found that savings bond today. It's worth about $125. If I deposit it at the credit union, will they take it at how much it's worth or the face value (it has $50 printed on it)?

Thanks!

I have horrible credit, and I'm going back to school in Jan. I have defaulted on a student loan, so I can't get federal grants or loans. All other financial institutions keep denying me. 2 different places approved me, but one was in the Camen Islands, so i didn't trust that. They wouldn't even send me any paperwork until I sent $1500. Allstate approved me, they sent my contract and everything. I'll get the money about 5 days after they receive the $2000 security deposit. Does this sound legit?

There's an opening at a company in my field (graphic design). However, they are asking for a salary history and "resumes without salary history will not be considered". I have been at my current job for 2 1/2 years and started in a junior level position, took the position to gain experience after getting my bachelor's degree in art/design, and build my portfolio which I have done. I now have 3-4 years of professional full-time experience and should be considered mid-level but my current company is too cheap to give me a big jump in salary for mid-level. I also have another additional bachelor's degree (multimedia), but those skills are not being used in my current company even though I've offered it to my managers so I can be more valuable and grow. With my 2 degrees, my skills and experience (based on market rate) I can make at least $10k more. Should I lie about my current salary on my salary history to get this big jump, and can they verify it? I don't want to be lowballed again.

In the present volatile market, recent wide value swings are attributed to things like oil prices, the value of the dollar against other currencies, and, recently, the home loan influence on Financials. The question is, which is the primary influence, or is it something completely else?

My mom is in debt and we are trying to help her out. She owes more than her house is worth. If she sold her house for it's current value she would still be $43K in debt. Her monthly income is $1000 less than she makes per month. Should we have her file bankruptsy or foreclose on her house? What is a short sale? We will probably have to buy a less expensive house and have her pay rent but how do we get rid of the house she currently has? HELP!

Heres a question, say i get a gift, and i don't know where the person who gave it to me got it from. and i don't want to ask them because it would look rude.

now i really don't like the present, i have not use for it. so i'd like to return it, but obviously i won't have the reciept.

if i know they sell the same item at Target, and i THINK that is where they got it from (but not 100% sure) could i go in, tell them i don't have the reciept, and still be able to return it?

or because i don't have the reciept, i wouldn't be able to? would i atleast get store credit or something? is there anyway i could get it like as in a gift card?

what are my options for returning something without a reciept

I just found out that the company I work for has not paid the payroll taxes for Aug, Sept, or Oct. By law, they are supposed to be reported. My question is, once reported, how long is it usually before the IRS comes to the door? They were late paying for one month already this year, but not like this. They haven't even paid the employee portion nor do they have the money to do so.
