Let's say for example I make $500,000 and have a $20,000 property tax bill. According to what I've read, if you make over $100,000 and have prop tax deductions you are subject to AMT. But, does that mean I cannot lower my taxable income to $480,000 and save about $8,500 in taxes?

Can I have my domestic partner, or anybody in the house pay the prop tax if s/he makes under $100,000 so they can get the deduction? Thnx.

I have been brainstorming and came up with an idea but i dont know if there is a need for it on the market. I want to start a magazine but I want to know if people really need or want that kind of magazine. So I am thinking of creating a focus group to see if people would buy my product or not but I dont want anyone to steal my idea so should I conduct one or just go for it with my idea and see if it flops. I mean thats the only way to research it is by finding out if there is a need for by doing a survey or conducting a focus group. What do you guys think??

We live in Northern Virginia. We are married with one daughter and have a joint income of $170,000. We both max out our 401Ks. Our "profit" from selling the house would be about $200,000. This is our first house and we've been here for 5 years. (If we do this, we would live in my parent's second home and only pay for utilities.)

I had a car that was repo'd. They sold the car and I was left with a 11k balance...

eventually the finance company charged off the debt and sold it to a collection agency. This is how it appears on my credit report. Now shouldn't the collection agency be reporting the balance on my credit report? It says balance due NA... am I off the hook or no?

We have been looking for a house to purchase and have an offer in now. We let the lease expire and have agreed to give 45 days notice to the landlord when we want to move. I would like to keep the overlap of paying for both homes to as little as possible. We moved to the DC area and rented until we were familiar with the area and ready to search. The last time we went from rental to purchase was thirty years ago.

I could give notice as soon as the offer is accepted (assuming it is) but we then have the house inspection to go through and we know there are a couple of things we want to have fixed. One fairly major plumbing issue.

Would you suggest we give notice when we come to agreement on fixing the items? We want to minimize dual payments but not take the chance of losing our rented condo and the house. Suggestions.

I had a score over 700, it dipped to 631, then jumped up to 676 after I paid an account in collections. How soon can I bring my credit back above 700 & how? I keep a low balance on my credit cards and pay in full every month, my car is nearly paid off. I am very responsible financially, spend way less than I earn, avoid credit trouble. This situation however, was unavoidable because I never got a bill in the mail.

An account was sent to collections, which was a total mistake. I was never contacted about oweing money for a $32.00 doctor visit that my insurance was supposed to cover untill it was already in collections. I would have paid it if I was mailed a notice, because I had the money in the bank, but I was never mailed a statement. I contacted all parties involved after I saw it on my credit report, and they insisted it was mailed, but I never got the notice. My credit dipped to 631 b/c of this little incident, but jumped up to 676 after found out about the account & paid it.
