Does anyone understand how to translate gross income into net? For example, if I were earning $75K per year (paid monthly) and placing 6% into a 401k, 1.5% into a city tax and another $200 into insurance, what calculation(s) will bring me to net income? I know that 401k contributions are pre-tax, social security is 6.2% and medicare another 1.45%. That being said, does 401k come out before or after SS and medicare?

Ultimately, I'd like to set up a spreadsheet that can run this calculation.

I recently purchased an atv. at the time, i could afford it with no problem. but, as my luck goes, i found out recently that i no longer can afford it and will HAVE to get rid of it. i've only ridden it once because this came up and i've been scared to drive it since. it only has 14 miles on it so its pretty much brand new. i was wondering if i took it back voluntarily, will it still hurt my credit? shouldnt they be able to resale it for about the same price since it only has 14 miles on it? very unlucky circumstances for me that these money problems came up right after i bought the atv. somebody please help!

Two big events happened over the Summer. (1) I got married and (2) I took a new job. Upon accepted the new job, I listed myself as married on my W4. To my surprise, my take home pay is coming at a higher % of gross pay than when I was single. All other factors are equal (retirement account, insurance, etc). Further, I should be in the same tax bracket with the new job as I was with the old.

Why is this the case? Does the govt tax married folks at a lesser %?

Curt loaned thomas (a friend) 20,000 in 2005 with the agreement that the loan would be repaid in two years. In 2006, Thomas filed for bankruptcy and Curt learned that he could expect to receive .30 on the dollar. In 2007, final settlement was made and Curt received 4,000. Assuming the loan is a nonbusiness bad debt, how will Curt account for the bad debt?

I'm going bananas on how to approach this question. Can someone please shed some light?

Hi I have like almost 20g on credit card debts. I was able to work due to injury and was on disability for past couple years. I didn't get much for disability so lived us a few credit cards. Now, I'll be going back to work but it is a modest paying office job.

What can I do about the debt?

My neigbor tried one of those credit consolidation companies recommended here and they asked for a small monthly minimum for all bills but turned out none of the $ went to pay the bills so she lost that $ and her credit cards were never paid! SO PLEASE don't just say some random online company. Please tell me a company if you used them with success or what else you did for successs.

I can't make the minimums, each card is like almost $200 minimum.
Please help, I choose to change and live off of cash vs. credit (unless true emergency or real bills, very few pleasures) but am dying on this plastic mess.

THANK YOU!

P.S. I tried calling all the credit card companies and no help!

Just curious...

Let's see if I get a studio, have at least 5 grand saved up, and I'm good with money, do you think its possible? Like how much do you think monthly bills would be and how much do you think I would need to make monthly to support myself?

Oh yeah I live in Southern California.

I consolidated this credit card that i maxed at 5,000, and I consolidated two other cards one was 800.00, and 500.

Before i consolidated the three cards i was current and On TIME, but it was a deep HOLE in my pocket so I consolidated and took my interest rates from 15% to 4%, and I have been paying on time for a little over a year. I am getting an AwesoME christmas bonus from my job, and plan to pay off my debts after NOV.1.

so what I am asking is:

Will my credit score go up after paying down debt by 60%,(because I know its good to have a little debt!) or because its consolidated it will still look bad! i recent learned consolidating isnt a good thing to the credit people!

You take over payments for property that's headed for foreclosure, and the house is yours once it's paid off. It sounds too good to be true because the payments are so low, for one thing.
