Male nurses are just as well trained as female nurses. Male nurses are in demand for several reasons, often elderly women identify with male nurses (and as nurses don't do things like give baths or insert catheters etc anymore -- things that are done by patient techs), because male nurses (especially the ones I have worked with) are more compassionate than many female nurses. I have been a nurse for over 30 years and many of the female nurses I have worked with are crabby. Most of the male nurses are more patient and I have never heard one get short with a patient. I am talking real nurses here, not nursing assistants.

My husband is a RN, he is very compassionate and a complete joy to be around. (comments from other nurses), he doesn't gossip like most of the female nurses or get into their squabbles. I have worked with numerous male nurses and found out for the most part they are the same as he is. The only bad part to being a male nurse where I live we have to give bed baths to both sexes just like the female nurses do. It is nice to be able to change pts. when u have a male pt. and don't really want to do bed baths, most men will be glad for the female to take the female and they do the male. Nursing is a very rewarding career!

I don't like them, so they're not in demand with me.
A while back I went to a dentist that had a boy nurse (or assistant), and I literally got up and ran out of the office. I'll try to avoid going to any doctor that has one.

Same reason there aren't very many male teachers...just normally a female dominated field.
