Hello, I run a small retail shop in Minnesota. Yesterday, someone wanted to charge FIFTY CENTS on a credit card. My fees are nearly that much, if not more. So, I gave him the item, and told him to pay me next time he stopped by. The question I have is, what are my options, in Minnesota, regarding such small purchases on a Credit Card? Can I refuse them? Can I charge an extra fee to cover my costs in processing a 4-bit Charge? (And, yeah, I realize both options don't really encourage more business at my shop) But, c'mon......FIFTY CENTS? Back when Jesse was the Gov, the rule was you had to accept the charge, but could add on a fee for your costs. But I have yet to find a confirmation that the rule is still in effect. Anyways, thanks for the help. TABroman

Can anyone give me specifics as to why these two taxes differ?
Also, isn't there something about "federalism" that says the federal government can't take money from the state taxes?

Any help would be awesome : )!
And if you have the sources for the information, that'd be great too!

I am building a new house and our builder wants $35k for a bonus room above our garage.(14'x24') I'm a first time buyer and not sure if this is too much money. The bonus room would also come with a bathroom. If this is too much money, how should I go about getting it cheaper?

Property Investment?
I was invited to an open house by a broker. It was more of an investment property. This is what the broker told me about the property:

1*** Unionport Road, $119K, CC $543.33, tenant paying $940

The tenant that lives in there is renovating the apartment himself. Does this sound like a scam or am I viewing this wrong? The broker advise me if I am interested, the property could be mine but the tenant included and she will lower the price to $114,000. What do you guys think? What questions should I ask the tenant?

In 2002 I lost my wallet and told the bank 2 days later...someone during this time put 2 cheques into my account (for approx £5,500 each) and then withdrew the money the following morning before the cheques had cleared and before the banks had opened. I have been paying £10.00 for the past few years but am still very bitter at this. Am I responsible to pay all this money back? Does anyone know what rights I have?

We live in NY now. We plan on doing this in 2 years, when we graduate for college. We all understand what this is going to require.

We are going to save money now. We all have jobs, can drive, etc.

Our plan: move to cali a month before college starts and get jobs, and an apartment. WE split the rent. We understand the responsiblity such as not constantly partying.

My question: What am i forgetting. I will add additional details as the answers ask for them. so check back.

ALSO we plan on moving to the san diego area. What should we know.

and a question, please don't be offended. Where in california are caucasians the minority? please no offense.

So I got let go on Friday from my job. I knew my team lead disliked me, I could tell in the subtle ways she talked to me and addressed me, etc. I began to discuss it with superiors and perhaps she got wind and just made the move to let me go. Yet I was told ALL THE TIME that I was great at my job. Well I got rehired, by a different department, because lets face it, I'm a good catch! Honestly though, I do my job very well and I had applied for this job a few weeks ago because it was an advancement. Well I start tomorrow and I CANT WAIT to see the old team lead that let me go. Part of me (the really immature part) wants to march right over to her neck of the woods tomorrow morning and ask for this particular documentation I had asked for a week ago that was handed back today, which I didnt work, just so she has to see me. Then another part of me says youre better than that and should move on, but I am REALLY angry I was let go, particuarly because I feel like it was unjust. What would yo

My husband and I have found a 1200 sq ft Doublewide home on a beautiful spot of land. We could buy the lot behind it and it would make it a couple of acres the house sits on in a secluded area in the beautiful hill country. We were going to lease the house because we will probably not be here but a year or two but then thought we'd buy it, add to it, buy the lot behind it and try to resale it for more. The price now is 55000 plus the 5000 for the lot behind it. Would it be worth two years of adding to and remodling to turn around and resale it?

When I left my employer in early June, I still had some flex med receipts that I had not filed with my employer's plan. I planned to submit the receipts, but waited almost until the end of what I thought was a 90-day grace period (after June 30). When I filed the receipts near the end of September, I was told that my deadline to file was actually 90 days after my end date with my employer ... so I would have had to file the receipts at the beginning of September.

So now, they're telling me that because I didn't "use it," (the funds), I "lose it." And my former employer told me that the language about "90 days after leaving employment" was in my flex med paperwork, so I should have known -- and thus have no appeal (ignorance is no excuse for the law).

Is there a way to appeal and regain these lost flex med funds or possibly to at least write off the loss on my taxes? Does the IRS have person who deals with these issues? I welcome any advice.
