I am wondering if I could use the remaining Adoption tax credit to cover penalities for withdrawing from my TSP early. If so I'd like to do that so the credit won't goto waste. Then I could put that money into an IRA the next year and reap the tax benefits.

Under federal law, when a debt is forgiven, it can be treated as ordinary income on which tax must be paid. Thus, if your lender allows you to sell the property for $475,000, less a 2 percent commission, you will have a deficit of $34,500. According to many tax professionals, you will have to pay income tax on this amount of forgiven debt, even though you did not receive the money.

Is that statement true. Others have said you only owe tax if you borrowed more than the basis in the property. IE: Second mortgage or HELOC to buy a car.

We're 9 months into our lease and the landlord has just taped a notice to everyone door " 30 DAY NOTICE TO CHANGE THE TERMS OF THE RENTAL AGREEMENT".

I thought the landlord couldnt do this when you have a lease. Also; if they did change the lease, that would make the lease nul and void. We can move then with out contunuing the 12 month lease.

I live in Texas now but have some collections from california. the oldest one is from 2001. i checked on suze ormans site and according to the statue of limitations for california they have 4 years for written and 2 years oral for credit cards. My question is that if those statues are correct and the collections I have on my report have no activity since 2001 to 2003 can the creditors still try and collect on them. and should I just leave them alone and not pay and let them drop off.? Shouldn't they drop off after 7 years or before?

I found the web site to register a complaint, but it requires a name or phone number. These calls always show on caller id as name unknown and number unknown. I haven't had a problem yet with repeat calls, I'm concerned with the large number of first time callers.

My husband and I signed a purchase and sale agreement with a realtor to buy a house....We were suppose to close 8/24/07 and there is a 7 day extension period, this was based on financing......our lender rarely talks to us and when she does she tells us we can't afford this home, or puts us down or gets just plain rude.....We have told the lender and real estate agent that we can not afford this home due to the amount of payments that has been quoted to us, but yet they are still trying to get us approved.......the agent tells us we have to wait until 8/31/07 before we can say okay we aren't getting it, but is there anyway to get out of this NOW as we know we CAN NOT afford this home?????
PLEASE WE NEED ANSWERS NOW.

The Housing market is in a mess with all the foreclosures now, and since all of this has happened numerous mortgage companies have had to fill bankruptcy! Now, no one with less than a perfect credit score, and no, not even a cent in outstanding debts can be approved for a loan, unless it is one of those super high interest loans that has caused all the problems in the first place! We just lost our pre approved loan because of all the new changes and because we owe a small amount of medical bills. Who ever came up with this stupid thing called a credit score took away all the fairness in everything!!! No, I don't believe people should not pay their bills, but sometimes you have situations in your life beyond your control(like medical). We should all have the right to own a home, the American dream. As long as we make the payments it should be our right! Not be judged by a score only without looking at the situations! What are your opinions on this subject?
