My husband and I have found our first home, and made an offer this week. The sellers counter offered, and didn't budge an inch on their asking price. We are countering again, a little higher than we started, but well below the seller. The house has been on the market for over 6 months and needs lots of work... (new floors, light fixtures, paint, etc...) What are the odds these sellers will just say, "to heck with them," and sit around for another 6 months waiting on a new potential buyer? I really do love this house, but they're asking about 5,000 too much. Any suggestions, advice?

I mean, my landlord would say he'd be down the next day when i'm there and fix something and he'd never show up. then days later he shows up when no one is there fix whatever he fixes and leaves. I know he said he'd come down but not the day he was supposed to. Do I have a right to be upset? or is he aloud to come and go as he pleases?

I have been working at a law office for about a month as a legal secretary. The partner I work for is driving 50% of the business in the firm, but she is very demanding.

Our dresscode is formal. I have been wearing pantsuits to work and she told me that was inappropriate. She said that I have to wear a skirt suit everyday with hose and closed toed shoes. That would have been fine but things have gotten stranger.

Often times she calls me into take notes. The last couple of times she has asked me to rub her feet. That seems really odd. I know she is stressed and the first time I did it was fine, but now I do it everyday. I also get her dry cleaning, fetch her lunch and do a number of other mindless chores.

She even mentioned this week that she wants me to take a class on giving pedicures? Is this okay. I like the job, it pays really well, but is this normal?

I applied for a position with a hotel last week online. So far I have participated in a phone interview, met with the manager and the director of operations, that was this past tuesday. The interview went quite well actually. I met with the manager of the department for about 30 minutes, and everything seemed great. She said she would like for me to meet the Director of Operations, so I did. Again, I think it went quite well. After we were done speaking she said ok, orientation would be in about 3 weeks. She then advised the manager to check my references. Upon leaving the manager advised me I would hear back either that day or the following day. I sent a thank you e-mail yesterday morning. It is now Thursday and I still have not heard anything. My question is: should I call tomorrow to follow up?

Me and husband are homeowners and barring borrowing money we are unable to finance minor repairs and home improvements. We both work full time. Its very frustrating as our house looks like what used to be a "council house" inside and out and the local council houses (as the improvements and repairs cost the tenants little or nothing) look like the residents own them.

On my job for over 18 years and the 'official' reason for termination was job elimination. I was under the impression that my insurance coverage would last for 90 days after not employed and then I could begin Cobra. Is this not the law?

(Maryland laws only)

My boss initially low-balled me on pay rate, because he knew I needed a job - my wife and I were pregnant. He knew I wouldn't say No to the opportunity. There were initial promises of going hourly to salary, competetive salary rate after 90 days, paid holidays, and accumulation of vacation days - none of which came to fuition. Eventually, he offered to pay for licensing costs & schooling.

After a year, I took another job, with a better company, with family benefits beginning on my first day and a slightly better salary.

Now, my boss wants to deduct the school's cost from my final paycheck, because I'm not "fulfilling my responsibility to the company".

Should I confront him or just not come in my last few days? The amount of days I'd be paid for working at the end approximately equals the amount I "owe" the company.

Is withholding that money legal or should I even have to repay it, if there is no business/employment agreement?

Allow me to explain...

I've recently received my annual pay review at work, and I frankly consider the raise I got to be very low (2.6%).

Now I think it is a reasonable thing to say that if my annual pay rise is below the rate of inflation, then in real terms I'm actually being paid less than I was this time last year (since the raise I have received does not compensate for the rise in the cost of goods and services over the last year).

As things currently stand in the UK the Consumer Price Index is 2.5%, however the Retail Price Index is 4.3%. So I want to know which one of these it's fairest to compare my pay rise to, and why?

Obviously if I go by the CPI then I'm *slightly* better off, but if I go by the RPI then I've actually taken a pay cut (in real terms)... so I need some clarification! Am I better or worse off?

I'm hoping to put a case to my boss for a better deal, so the reasons for your answers would be greatly appreciated!
