I haven't filed my federal tax in years and would have received a return. I have all my W-2 forms for the previous years but don't know where to start and how many years back in time the IRS will allow me to file.

I work as a Co-op with IBM in RTP, NC... I'm a full-time student in Puerto Rico but I'm here doing co-op work... I just got paid $2084.44 before taxes and after taxes and medicare and stuff it came out to $1388.84...is this right? I mean I lost about 33% of my check and I need to know this is right so I can get this fixed if it's not... please let me know so I can contact finance as soon as possible...

if it helps, I have no children, I'm single and I'm renting where I live... as I said I'm a student and I want the to recieve a return when I file taxes but I didn't know federal and state tax (plus medicare) would hurt so much... if this is wrong please let me know to get this fixed!

Anyway the work was done between 05 and 06. It was such a small amount in 05 that I didn't even report it that year. Federal taxes were never taken out of it either. It was paid out with check though his bank. This person is a small 3 man company. He totalled the 1099-MISC and issued it for 06 instead of issuing one in 05 and another in 06. The problem is that In 05 I also made around 24K and my tax liability was soooo low. In 06 I made around 50. When I entered that 1099-MISC in it knocks off $200.00 off of my refund. Could I use my bank statements as proof that It was part of the year. Do I have to report this 1099-MISC.

My brother is building a house well beyond his means. I am also looking to buy a house myself, however, within a threshold I can afford. Every opportunity my brother has he boasts about the luxurious home him & his wife will being living in. Example of the boasting: He asks me how many square feet will you have?" I state about 1,700 - he replies "My basement is 1,700 feet". Furthermore this dream home is $400,000 with the combined salary of him & his wife being $115,000 per year. With these salaries and no money given from parents -is this something he can even afford?
