In the this past year I had a back taxes that were owned for the amount of 1200, I am curious if making this payment makes it so I can write off this payment on my taxes. I know there is a catagory for state taxes paid but is there anything for federal back taxes paid.

No, there is no deduction for Federal taxes whether they're paid late or on time.

State income taxes paid late are deductible in the year that they're paid if you itemize. Be sure that you only report the tax, not any penalties, fees or interest.

You can do this for state and local taxes paid in 2006 that you owed in a previous year - add it to the other state and local taxes you enter on line 5 on Schedule A.

But you cannot deduct federal taxes you paid in any year, including this year.

No. You know better than this. Federal Tax does not become a write-off for Federal Tax.

I don't think so but don't count on me. Go to www.IRS.gov and check. They have a number you can call to make sure. If you could do that then lots of people would deliberatly pay late or underpay to in order to claim that on next years taxes. Good luck.
