Hi Everyone,

I'm thinking of babysitting my niece 5 days a week. My brother has offered to compensate me. Our questions are: 1) Do i need to declare the income when tax time comes around? 2) Do they need to declare themselves as my "employer" in order to get a tax credit for child care (does such a credit exist?)? We've looked at the paperwork for them to be my employer, and it looks so confusing. 3) Is there anyting else we should be thinking about regarding declaring income, tax credits, etc?

Thanks!

I rented an apartment 3 months ago in pennsylvania. I have been a good tenant except that my two dogs have done some damage to the house(carpet damage, chewed window sills) My landlord recently visited and flipped out over the damage and said she is increasing my rent by 700 dollars per month to cover the damages. Am i liable for this? Shouldnt I atleast see how much teh damages are going to actually cost before agreeing to this large hike in rent? Does anyone know anything about this topic?

we get about 5000 on our tax return... we have one daughter(so we get 1 child tax credit)who is 18 months old, and another due in may...last year we didnt need to think too hard because we spent some on her and then put a down payment on a new car.... this year....we want to put some in the savings, and have some to spend on ourselves....well my hubby wants to put 4000 away in savings and split the other 1000 up between us... 300 for him, 300 for me 200 for our daughter and 200 on the one due in may... now i want to put 3000 in the savings and split 1000 up between me, our daughter, and my hubby (a little over 300 each...)and use the other 1000 to get everything we need for the one due in may.... (cradle, swing, clothes, blankets, bouncy seat, carseat, bottles, stock up on some diapers....stuff that we need for the newborn when it gets here... we havent bought ANYTHING and im due in 4 months....)

Any ideas on how to come to a compromise, or other ideas on how we should do it....

I work first shift and I have to share a desk with the Second shift person, who is fairly new, so we havent been sharing more than i would say three months. i have always used the middle drawer, i have my personal belongings, plus office belongings in it. when my desk partner first got here he started using it as well, i never said anything but it really bothered me, as i had personal stuff in there (there is no way to lock it) so anyway i took out my personal things and left only office things just trying to be reasonable, now i am noticing things like my pens and pencils being chewed on...i definitly do not do this. how should i handle this situation. he has an option to use his own drawer but for some reason has always used mine. i dont want to be rude about it, but its so unsanitary. any thoughts??

There is a very nasty little imp at my work. She tells the bosses every move we make thinking it'll get her ahead. I told her what she could do with her attitude about a year ago - it shut her up for a while.

Now the angry beast has woke up and she's ready to fight again. She goes from saccharine sweet to nasty biatch in 5 minutes flat - even insult you to your face and making a log of what everyone in the office does. Immature stuff.

When is the boss going to see this and let her go???

I had a Shell gas card for about 5 years and was never charged an annual fee. Then in June, I received my statement which included a $25 annual fee. The reverse side of the statement had instructions to write a letter if I wanted to close the account and avoid paying the annual fee. I wrote the letter and then received a letter back saying the account was closed as requested. Now they want me to pay them the $25 plus late fees and they reported it on my credit that I have an outstanding balance! I wrote to the disputes department but that didn't help either. I spend way more than the measly $35 they want, and they just lost a loyal customer. Please join me in my boycott until they repair the damage they did to my credit report. Thanks and Happy New Year!

I recently modified my resume to better reflect my skills and accomplishments. The new resume is a signficant improvement.

I'm thinking of sending the new resume to several companies who already have the old version.

I believe the new resume will be a better advertisement for my skills and I believe that sending the new copy will be a way to make sure that I am still in their mind.

The downside is that I could annoy the employers and they might question why I made the changes.

What do you think? What would you do?

I am currently in a dead end job. I get great experience but the office I work in is not run professionally and I make $10 an hour. I have a degree in Public Relations and Political Science. What can I do with this degree? I have some great internships experiences that equal out to about 2 years total for relevant exp. I have been at this job for about 10 months now and i want out! THere is no room for growth and my position is funded so there is no hope for a raise. Any suggestions?

Money doesnt matter much to me, but I want to make enough to move out of my parents home. HELP!!

I interviewed last week for a company I really wanted to work for. The position was just what I wanted, it was a dynamic company, would have been a short commute and with excellent pay. I ended up one of the top two candidates. Even though the recruiter thought I was the best person for the job, the company went with the other person. I interview well, have a great resume and a great personality. But, I just keep getting passed over for jobs. I was downsized at age 50 (along with 10,000 co-workers) from a giant telecommunications company in 2002, had one totally crappy job for three years and am now unemployed again. I just can't seem to get back on my feet, both career wise and financially. It's really beginning to get to me. Anyone have any words of advice/wisdom?

We had to let our marketer go and this is not my area of expertise. I need to be getting more business and need a good flyer. I would be able to design something (I think) but I do not know where to begin or what to say.

If not what would you change about it, and if you would choose a different profession what would it be? I went to school for Office business training and I am A/P for a big Lumber Supply Co. Don't get me wrong, I love my job at times, but it's not my calling. I would love to go back to school to be an Elementary teacher, I work full time and I have two kids and a husband to take care of, it's just hard to find the time to work school back into my busy schedule. Tell me about your job.
