Example..husband has horrible credit and wife has pretty good credit. Does something on his credit report effect her standing with creditors or vise versa?

YES.

If you do not want to have it "cross over" then you have to be very careful about new credit applications to make sure that they are individual and not joint accounts. This is a good opportunity for Mr. to get hios act together. If he closes and settles his bad accounts and THEN is added Mrs' accounts he can cut down the time it will take him to get good credit without having too much of a negative impact on Mrs.

Not until you guys buy something together. When I was married I had excellent credit and wife had horrible credit. Good luck.

Only if you have joint accounts or you have placed your spouses name on a credit application

My husband and I have joint credit card accounts
and also seperate accounts and our credit scores are different from one another.
