For tax year 2005, I believed that I was eligible to file for the EITC for my daughter because I thought her father was in arrears for child support. I filed and received the refund. I found out at the end of 2006 that he was not in arrears, and so he was entitled to claim our daughter. I realize that the mistake was mine, and I want to correct it. However, now I am hearing that there is a penalty for filing for EITC when you are not eligible, and that it is you cannot file for EITC again for five years. Is this true? Are there certain circumstances that make this true or not true? If you provide an answer, please let me know the source so that I can look into it. Thank you so much!!

I self-publish a comic book online for fun, that I do sell, but the profits from sales are extremely minimal (under $50 for '06). Considering preparation and printing costs well exceeded any profits I made, could the expenses of printing and supplies be deducted as 'hobby' expenses when filing my federal return?

Also, I've spent money on supplies like paper, ink, brushes, etc. Could this also be deducted as part of the hobby?

Thanks.

I have a New Look store card, which is a G.E money account, and over the last few months this account has been passed onto a debt collection agency due to arrears.I am aware that banks can charge no more than a ten pounds fee for copies of my statements over the last six years, but does this apply to the debt collection comany who are dealing with my account,or can they charge me 36 quid, which is what they have asked for to send me statements so i can add up unlawful charges on my account? I hope someone understands me!!

I went through a lot of trouble with this particular apartment I was planning on moving into but I went tthrough it and I moved in on New year's eve. Now, I'm finding out that the shower will only have enough hot water for 5 minutes so after 5 minutes the water gets cool instead of hot. I called the landlord and he said it's because it's tankless so it only last 5 minutes and I have to take a quick shower. I asked him if he can install a water heater and he said no. He's not going to waste $1000 to install just for me. I commented that the other unit has it and he said that the other unit's tankless heater was broken so he had to replace it.

Anyhow, I don’t think I can stand taking 5 minutes hot shower since I live in MA. What are my options? Can I sue him and make him install the heater or can I sue him and get back my first and last month rent, my moving expenses, payment for the hours I spent cleaning, and for moving cost to another location? Or am I out of luck...

I got a job in a well known company and at first i was really looking foward to it as i was bored in the house but i got really fed up quite quickly the way things were with certain people who worked there. The main thing that i had been looking foward to was getting to know people, customers AND staff...but it seems even having a 2 min converstation with another member of staff(asking how new year had gone for them)was frowned upon. It was quiet and it wasnt a big long converstion. In my opinion the atmosphere in the shop could be quite nerve racking when she was around. I realise she was in charge etc and she has a job to do but for gods sake she should lighten up. In the end i couldnt look foward to work and i had to make myself go. Luckily i didnt need it for the money but i know some people rely on it and have to take the crap thats thrown at them. Work should be a good fun place to work as well. This is my 2nd rant of the week. Im doing well!! LOL
