I have dark brown hair (I am a Black woman mid 40's).

I have always had dry, brittle hair. My mom used to have to oil my scalp 3-4 times a week. I still do so today. I can oil my scalp MOnday and by Wednesday it's dry again.

Are there any products on the market that will help?

I also have a very dry, itchy scalp.

Do you think a woman should wear her hair short just because she is over a certain age, (let's say 45 or so), and does it make an older woman look older or younger with longer hair? What's your opinion?

I have very long hair - to my hips -and I don't know whether to get it cut...it's in very good condition - always shiny and I get it trimmed regularly so there are no split ends but I'm getting a bit bored of it...although I can't imagine life without having my hair this long, and I don't think I'd like it any shorter. Advice?

I was born with naturally curly hair. I've recently been getting into short hair styles. not too short, but just above the shoulder. Im tempted to get it cut but someone advised me not to because my curls would be out of place. Im willing to straighten it with a straighting iron on some days but I don't think it will cause that much damage. any help?

Does styling you hair with a blower make you lose hair? Does straightening your hair make you lose hair? Does overdrying your hair make you lose it? Does using hair appliances make you lose hair out of the usual?

After years of wearing synthetic dreads I'm biting the bullet and going the whole dreadlocked hog...! I want them to knot up good and proper...
My problem is I can't find consistent advice on how often to wash them and what to wash them with?
The 'specialist' products seem too expensive and I've been told to avoid them...
I'm confused!?!?!?!

I have highlighted and dyed my hair too many times. So recently I decided to just dye it back to its natural color. The problem is the dye is fading off my hair so my roots that are coming in are dark brown and my hair has some green tint to it. Not to mention the facts that the ends are all split up and everything else is frizzy. The only way it looks halfway decent is when i take a straightener to it and I know that isnt good for it. Im so frustrated but im kinda scared to go to a hairstylist because they will chop it all off to my ears! Can anyone help me with my green frizzy split up hair?

... or is that just the impression that I get from what limited exposure I have to European media? (I live in the United States.)

I got semi-permanent hair dye put in my hair today and I would like to know how long I should wait to shampoo my hair so that the color won`t fade away quickly.

I heard a rumor sometime ago that dying your hair may cause brain damage? So is it true? If it is what is the evidence?

A lot of girls, mainly from the USA are asking about bangs here in the hair section, but I have no idea what they are.
Are they like layers? Are they sideburns? Are they dreadlocks?
What are they in UK English?

i have black hair and cant decide if i should get highlights or not, because of the price - it's$50 and my hair is a bit shorter than shoulder length.

the stylist recommended caramal and ash blonde, but am not sure about the combination.

can anyone recommend some colours? can you have three different shades?
