Go to a great hairstylist!
A good hairstylist can cut any kind of hair.
Too much heat on hair can damage - thats why you need to condition it and treat it with moisturisers and friz control. Try the Pantene products for your curls and conditioners and John Freida for hair friz control.
Be adventurous and get the style you want - and have fun with the different styles you can create - straighten it, or leave it curly etc.

If you don't like the curls, you could get it professionally straightened then it would be longer. I am of mixed race and I dislike my curly hair so I get it relaxed (straightened for people of color) every once in a while. I am not sure exactly what you would call getting your hair straight (if you are white). Then after you get it straightened ( if you do) use shampoo and conditioner for permed or color-treated hair to keep your hair from excess damage. Because of the chemicals in the straightener you'll need these types of shampoos and conditioners.

Using a straightening iron every day will cause damage, especially split ends and fried-looking hair. A good stylist will be able to work with your curls to create a good style - just be sure to go with your hair natural, not straightened, and talk to your stylist before she even touches the scissors.

my gf is acually a hairdresser and she uses a straightening iron almost every day.... the key is that you have to buy a har treatment from a salon directly it cant be the cheap stuff from the drug store. anyway... put the hair treatment in about 2-3 times a week to keep ur hair nurished and reduce the damage to it.

it surely relies upon on own determination. i love evidently curly hair as hostile to adhere instantly because you won't be able to curl hair as actual as you could straighten it. i respect my curly hair, and that i imagine you want to include what you've.
