A lot of girls, mainly from the USA are asking about bangs here in the hair section, but I have no idea what they are.
Are they like layers? Are they sideburns? Are they dreadlocks?
What are they in UK English?

They are Fringe in UK. I worked with one Stylist who hated when anyone used the term Bangs. He always said Bang is what you do in the backseat of a car. :)

I do not know the British English word for bangs, but all they are is just hair that is cut short over the forehead. Sometimes they dont cover all of the forehead, sometimes they reach the eyebrows, and sometimes they are longer. I personally don't like them because they can cause problems with your skin and such (the oils and such from your hair/hair products can cause pimples). But they do look good on some people

Bangs are just shorter hair that covers all or part of your forehead. They can either lay straight down or to the side. Ones that cover your forehead usually come down to around your eyebrows or a little lower.
