No, it won't bleach your hair. I never heard of using it to remove build-up either. Try rinsing your hair in a vinegar solution; about 1/3 cup of vinegar to 2 cups of warm water. Leave it on about 2 minutes and then rinse with clear water.

Hi, I use baking soda all the time on my hair. It will not bleach it at all. I just wet my hair and sprinlke the baking soda all over my head and scrub it in like shampoo. You could also make a paste out of the soda and water. It really works well to remove old hairspray and other styling products that shampoo alone can leave behind.

Ive heard of combing talcom powder thru hair to remove build up, never heard of baking soda. All baking soda does is aid rising of baking when added to flour so cant see why it would bleach your hair.

It works really well to remove buildup. Either mix it with water to make a paste, or mix it in with your shampoo and wash your hair as usual. Some people find it too harsh and drying, but others think it's great to clarify.

Baking soda counteracts acid, and may cut grease. But I think it would be too drying for your hair. It will come out like straw.

Neutrogena makes a shampoo specifically formulated to remove buildup. Try that instead.

I think it may dry the hair and give the impression of lighter colour. I clean my coffee stains from my aluminium sink with baking soda , it works better than cleanser so I sure in heck wouldn't wanna put baking soda in my hair.

I guess if you're creative for hair lightening you could try javex bleach , rat poisoning or lysol. (Just Kidding of course)
