Theater & Acting - January 2007

My school is doing a Shakefest this year consisting of a bunch of scenes from different Shakespeare's plays including Romeo and Juliet, Hamlet, Macbeth, ect. During auditions, I found out that we couldn't show any scenes of someone dying and I was just like 'what the heck?'. What is Romeo and Juliett without the famous ending? Aren't us teenagers revealed to death constantly in movies, tv, games, ect? Heck, they might as well not let us watch Bambi or The Lion King in school because they are "inappropriate" with some of the scenes in them. I think the School Board(well mine at least) comes up with such stupid rules. I personally think that the new director is being taken advantage of with rules that don't make sense, including another conflict we had in the other production we did this year. What to you guys think about this? Anyone else have this rule in their school system?

So for those out there who have done shows/musicals, what's the best way to get your mind off not getting a callback for the role you really wanted?

This afternoon there were auditions for a musical at the community theater. There was a huge turnout, and I thought I did pretty well. I mean did get called back for other lead roles, just not the specific one I wanted, and I admit, I'm a bit bummed. I know it's selfish of me for saying that. Any advice?

My friend was just curious about something. She love's the musical Wicked and (when she gets older and if she can try out for it) she would want to know what part she should try out for. She's kinda short, has brown eyes, light redish brownish hair and can most of Elphaba's and Galinda/Glinda's songs pretty good. What part do you think would be the best for her?

I want to star in the Spring Musical, Guys and Dolls and this is my last chance because I'm a Senior.

The director, unfortunately, has her favorites who get the lead parts in EVERY play, both fall and spring. I love to do plays, but it gets discouraging when year after year I am a member of the chorus or a very small part. I show up to every practice on time, I do everything she tells me (which includes doubling for 2 roles on 1 day notice for Macbeth) and I know I'm good, she just never gives me the chance.
At the end of the January are auditions for Guys and Dolls and I really want the part of Adelaide. I have done this play with her before and her favorites would be perfect for other roles and Adelaide is one of the leads. I know I can do a good job and I'm a Senior so I need to get this, it's my last chance. I have bought the movie and the soundtrack and have practiced. How can I show her how serious I am about this part and make her want to finally give me the lead?

Has anyone ever seen it? I want to go on a trip with my drama club to go see it. I am a highschool freshman with overprotective parents. They said I could go if the play was "appropriate." Will they probably let me see it? (For movies, I am allowed to watch a lot of PG-13, but not if it has nudity, and stuff like that, but no R, regardless of what it's rated for.)

I am in a play called "The Fantasticks" Last year I was in a play called "Godspell". Last year I was the only person that didn't have any lines along with a girl named Alicia. The man was a sort of lousy director and a jerk and I didn't want to to try out for another play. But I was approached by a janitor, a middle school piano teacher, about a few teachers, and several others to try out for "The Fantasticks". So I searched all over for a script on-line and dor the song I had to sing. We were t do a cold read from the script, but instead of doing that, I near perfectly recited what I was to be reading. I sang my best and I had a pretty good feeling that I did well. The director looked at me with an almost evil smile and asked what grade I was i. Something didn't feel right. When I looked at who got in the play, I found out that me and Alicia who had no lines in "Godspell" were the only ones who had no lines...AGAIN! We are called Mutes I feel like a servant should I quit

Ok...I have to dress up as clifford for something.
