To the shock of a great many people, my child, who was widely considered a shoe-in for one of two leads in a musical, was very unexpectedly offered a bit part. We can't turn to friends or the other cast mates we know for help because they are all shocked too, for him and others as there are more casting decision shocks. We nearly declined but he wanted to be involved anyways since he had planned to for nearly a year and had his heart set on it (albeit in a different capacity), I'll be in it with him, and two other mutual friends will also be in it. So for better or worse we accepted anyways. It's just going to really hurt and anger him for a while. The immediate concern is how to keep the pain from showing during the first rehearsal this Saturday and how to handle shocked condolences, how to pretend to be happy for and supportive of the ones who did get the roles, and how to work with a cast that does not yet appear to make sense and may still be unclear after the read through.

Thx

Basically, what is the best way to make yourself look cool without trying to much (being natural) whilst maintaining a good standard in your performance without too much distraction for yourself and concentrating in what you are actually doing on stage? I am shy guy and not the type of person who would get As in drama. I have stagefright and I can't stand people looking at me.
What is the best solution to overcome this problem? What are the best ways to make yourself confident on stage without being considered stupid, boring, gay and foolish by the audience?

Just so you know, I am 13 and I have some gay mannerisms, so I have a fairly strong reputation of being 'gay' at school. lol.

Thanks. (:

I am 15 and i have left some questions about acting. I have been in a fair few musicals in my local community such as, the sound of music, annie get your gun, scrooge, Into the woods and have done some backstage work. Ive been an extra in Mcleods daughters (although you didnt see me very much) and i have been in one big production in our school and smaller drama plays. I have auditioned for the role as Cosette in Led Miserables...although did not get the role. I play piano and can sing. Do you think i am on my way? Like if i keep doing auditions ect.?? I know alot of you will say its a hard business to get into which i know for sure...but is this how actors start?

First of all you should always say you do. In 1999 Columbine High School students were asked this and 13 students died. So remember to always believe in what you belive in.
