I live in centrail, Illinois i'm 5"8 and im 18. I really want to get into modeling but i'm not sure on how to go about doing it. I know i should get a portofilo and contact an agency but how do i go about doing that?

I'm not sure how to actually locate an agency in my area.

You need the right "look." What I mean is, you may be very attractive, but agencies search for a particular "look." The "look" changes about every five years or so. At 5' 8" you cannot weigh any more than 120 lbs. (which is VERY UNDERWEIGHT for your height and unhealthy) to be a model. They are still looking for that emaciated, scrawny appearance which in my opinion is unattractive. Also, your height may actually be AGAINST you. Most runway models are no more than 5' 7" (that is average height). You need to develop a portfoilio of PROFESSIONAL shots, get to New York, starve in some trashy but expensive apartment, take modeling lessons, and make the rounds of the agencies. This is a rough life and my suggestion is to get your education, have some fun, and stay healthy! This may not be what you want to hear, but the life of a model is NOT as glamourous as you may believe. Very few would-be models make it to the top or even make it at all. There are very few with the right "look." By the way,, most of the answers here are from people who have not a clue as to what they are talking about. Again, this is a very rough road full of much heartache and dashed dreams. Agencies DON'T call you, YOU have to go to them over and over and over again. You don't mail your portfolio and hope they call you. And Christie Brinkley had the "look" and she went from agency to agency and they hired her. She was a rare exception. The person who claims to have modeled for years is giving you BAD advice! Trust me, you should go to college and get your education. Also, you HAVE TO GO TO NYC, as in Illinois, well dear, the modeling agencies (the few there may be in Chicago) are not where it is happening.

First of all before you waste time be sure your in shape, then google the centrail, Illonois modling agencies if they're any good they will have their phone number on their website call them (after you've made your portfolio of course) and schedule an appointment and good luck!

GO take some profesional photos, then send them to all the agencies around where you live! then if they are interested they will contact you to book you! the other way is to look online, however a lot of em could be scam, so your best bet is to be signed with an official modeling agency! Good luck!

Legitimate modeling agents pay for your modeling portfolio photographs. When you earn money as a model they will take the money for your portfolio from the money you earn modeling.
Any modeling agency that asks you to pay them is a SCAM! Immediately leave the office.
If you sincerely want to model, you MUST live in New York City, otherwise you will run into scam, after, scam.
You don't need a portfolio until you start modeling.

first you have to have pictures of yourself in a porfollio. Then find and agent. Or you can just use your guardian to help you find jobs in photoshoots,commercials,and or runways. look in the yellow pages to find agencies but be careful for frods. Also when going to unknown agencies take someone with you. And once you get you get an agent they will give you jobs.
but it is best to have agents they find more jobs and with celebrities that can make you big and famous

you dont really need a portfolio just yet. All you need is a head shot, evening wear. bathing suite and casual. So maybe have a friend take them for your. Print them off and send them to angencies. If they find you are the look they want, they will provide all the training and photos you need. Christy Brinkly didnt have a folio when she got started. Let me know who it goes, I modeled for years.
