I would not reccomend singing together with your friend or singing the same song. This inadvertedly causes the casting director to compare you to your friend

It depends what your singing voice is. Do you need to sing a song from that musical?? Or can you sing any song? Depending on what your voice is like, and how it ranges you would best be looking at something that suits your voice. It doesnt have to be a pop song, just look through your parents records or on the radio and find a song which matches you. Im sure you will be fine. And i think maybe with this sort of audition you should sing by yourself because they will be looking for a performer and your friend could either help you...or break you. I think you should do a solo for this one. but good luck all the same, i hope you find a good song and get the part.

At the initial audition, it is generally not a good idea to sing a song from the show being cast. If you do sing a song from the show being cast, you run the risk that the character you choose to audition for might not fit the vision the auditor has for that character, and you could be eliminated for that role. The director might not envision you in a different role either, so you will be out of the running for other roles as well.

What part in the show do you think you are suitable for?

Get a recording of B & The B and listen to the songs. Note which characters best fit your type and singing ability.

When you have a good idea of which character or characters you might be suited to cast, seek out songs from similar musicals that have characters with similar traits as those you think suit you in the show being cast. The songs from those similar musicals will be the material you should prepare for your audition.

Choose songs that can be “acted,” not just “sung.” In musical theatre, the songs are part of the story. The songs might be used to reveal plot, develop character, reveal subtext, create conflict, or any number of theatrical intentions. The songs are like dialog set to music.

There are plenty of great Disney Songs that can show off your voice but not conflict with the show you are auditioning for. Look at "Colours of The Wind" from Pocahontas or "Part of My World" from The Little Mermaid for example. It doesn't have to be a 'classic' Broadway song as Directors have heard them all before! Be different!

Lastly, as a rule - Don't Audition WIth Your Friend. Auditions are a competition. You want to win - you don't want to NOT get cast becasue your friend let you down. Or watch your friend get the part because she/he was better than you!!

Help your friend find their own material to sing by all means - theater is fun when done together. But make sure your audition is UNIQUE, POLISHED and WELL PERFORMED!

Best of luck
