Theater & Acting - January 2007

Shakespeare is the biggest load of cr ap that has ever been printed. How on earth can anyone in their right mind say that it's any good? It's unintelligible drivel. Every person who has read any of his cr ap, have to have it explained to them in modern language. I defy anyone to tell me they can read a full Shakespeare play, and perfectly understand it all, and genuinely call it a good laugh, or a good plot.

Are people who say they like his work, just pretentious pricks?

after repeated viewings and listenings...i still find nothing but elitist absurdity in opera...
i used to claim incomprehension about the value of country & western...and though i still detest it, i can now acknowledge its merit in the scheme of things .... but i cant with opera.

all i can think is that it was an absurd varient that got taken up by the wealthy ethically challenged classes, and outlived its proper 10 year fad lifespan, to somehow survive, much like some prehistoric fish...right up to the present day!

its an obsolete throwback to the days when there was no amplification available, and hence singers had to sing in an absurd unnatural way in oerder to compete with an orchestra..

i could ramble on, but i feel im already wasting too much breath on this old dinosaur called opera.

I'm doing a talent search for actors in my area for talented actors, however, I need some actors and not just male models, who put actor on their resumes, like most talent agencies say to do, to get them more work. Any ideas where to look?

I am going to become a RN then move out to California, LA, when I get there I will work as a nurse of couse, but I want to take acting classes and become an "extra" and work my way up the food chain so to speak in acting and singing. Do you think I could have a good chance of making a hobby and then a potential living out of it? I will have nursing for financial support to pay for classes and headshots, is it easy to become an extra, Ive done some research but never talked to anyone who has ever done it. Thanks!!!

Hey,
I am having a really hard time controlling the vibrato in my voice.
I don't think its really a BAD thing to have, but too much is too much right?
Well how do I control it more and still hold the note?
I am a soprano.
Thanks!

I've got to perform an emotion in my drama class tomorrow. We're doing like a charades thing where they have to guess the emotion I'm expressing. Any ideas? I want something unique, but not so unique that they won't be able to guess it.

I want to hear all the awful or hilariouse things that have happened to you or your cast during a play or musical. Listen to mine it'll get you. Less than a month away from opeing night of Emma. Well our Frank Churchill has come down wiht mono. Our Mr. Knightly and Mr. Woodhouse were forced to swich roles do to some bad behavier of the ex-Mr. Knightly and our dear Mr. Elton has been forced to resign as his grade-point average was well not average. At our school grades come first as like most. But were're pulling it together and luckily our brave director hasn't killed anyone.... yet.
Come I won't to hear your stories!

I have an audition for the musical Guys and Dolls soon and I have picked out a song and I am pretty confident. but I was wondering where are you supposted to look when you sing. I've been told to make eye contact with the director, but don't stare. I have also been told to pick a spot on the wall and not look at them at all. What should I do?

Oh the song is El Fandango from Wagon Wheels West if that matters at all

I'm sure that this is all over this site, but I was curious what everyone's favorite monologue sites are. I'm looking specifically for female monologues for a teenager from musicals. NOT TV or movies. Any suggestions?
