Apparently nothing, from the actor's point of view. I heard somewhere just recently, that the emotions an actor goes through when assuming a character's role, is undetectable by the body itself that the emotions are fake or real. It is undistinguishable by our senses, and only the strength of the actor's mind brings the body out of the "altered state" of the "assumed" thoughts and feelings and back to their own reality. I have also read that the act of smiling can have the same positive effect on the human psyche as actually smiling out of real happiness or laughter. Interesting huh? WE have more control over our minds and bodies than we realize! So art imitates life and life can imitate art!

Real life has long pauses, bathroom breaks, conflicts that aren't resloved, boring moments, faulty logic, people talking at the same time....
If acting were truly like real life no one would pay you to see it....
Acting is heightened reality. It is (usually) based on fiction, imagination and fantasy to some degree. Acting is much more condensed than real life.

Well, it's true that we're all "acting" to a greater or lesser degree in our daily lives, but the actor's process is one of selection and amplification. The actor has the benefit of a rehearsal period to try out any number of possible behaviors, and then to CHOOSE the ones that seem to fit the role/production best.

in acting you create the scenario and you convince yourself that you are in that scene in order to act out what is required. you create the essential emotion in whatever needed scene. should you be grumpy in a situation? you set your mind to be grumpy personality to fit in the scene coz that's what it is called for.
in real life you are not aware of what is gonna happen next. surprises are everywhere and anywhere making you not ready for what to say or feel unless the situation has already occured. meaning you may be caught off guard. the words you say are not pre-determined so you need to be careful especially for the hurtful words you may say. you cannot turn back the moment you made a mistake because its real life. there are no "cuts" and "take two's"

Most actors have either histrionic personality disorder, or narcissist personality disorder. In real life only 20% of the population suffer from these disorders--except in Los Angeles, where EVERYONE has a personality disorder.

Acting is "pretend".... all your problem's won't be solved at the end of the day, like they are at the end of the movie...Oh, how I wish....
