She was kind of the bad guy in My Best Friends Wedding which is why they gave her characteristics like smoking. But she's very one dimensional and can't pull any role off other than the love interet with a wide smile

If you count taking you friend's fiancee as a bad guy role then the movie was My Best Friend's Wedding, but that was more like a comedy other than that, no.

I haven't seen "Closer", but I've been told she goes on this crazy angry tyraid where she curses up a storm... don't think her character is the antagonist in that film, but that scene at least is very out of the norm of what she does.
