im trying to find it on the internet and im not geting anywhere. can anyone help?

He was somthing of a social activist in his time. I would imagine the story of a king that was crazy, and misjudged constantly because of a handicap would be interesting to him. If you notice, tho truthfull, he was also very sympathetic to the chacter.

Actually, "Richard III" was the tail end of an 8-play historical sequence for Shakespeare. The play, which were not written consecutively, are:

Richard II
Henry IV, pt. 1
Henry IV, pt. 2
Henry V
Henry VI, pt. 1
Henry VI, pt. 2
Henry VI, pt. 3
Richard III

So, the short answer to your question is that Shakespeare was merely completing the historical sweep that began with "Richard II."
