Does it help if you would like to get into professional acting? If you did community theatre as a child, like I did?

This crazy business we call show and the arc of our lives as we pass through it -- community theater is practicing the craft and working in the field.

All steps to putting yourself out there, learning to work from an honest place and discovering the gift you wish to give to the world are valid, healthy and excellent.

Just as singing in the church choir, community theater helps you hone your craft and continue the ever evolving person that is you!

Well, it certainly couldn't hurt. It's all experience. Remember, when you audition for ANYTHING -- professional or amateur -- they'll look at your resume, but, if they know which end is up, they're far more intently focused on the WORK you show them, as opposed to your past credits. If working in community theatre makes you a better and more confident performer, then it should follow that you'll show yourself off to better advantage in professional auditions.
