I don't usually write this style of poetry so it's something new for me. Does this poem mean anything to you or is it just 'words'?

Glacier

Frosted silver, glistening
Sharp, pristine and angliar
Hidden secrets, whispering
Dense, unyielding barrier.
Glazial, cold and distant,
Dispassionate in your frigidity,
Naïve, raw and innocent
Or wise, all-knowing maturity?
Imposing, titanic sanctity
In mysterious hidden splendour
Sparkling wintry beauty,
Frosted buried fervour?
Pure, untarnished, purity
Or flawed illusory stranger?

Foggy Night, Foggy Light

Gray, with splashes of color
Hues of fog
Brilliant whites
Opaque reds
And hard blues

My mind longs to return
To those poetic moments
Of years ago
Alas, I may never return
For nothing remains the same
I suppose my writing
Is all the more painful now
All the more dull
Save the Lord deliver my soul
Back to the brilliant light
And the freedom to live

Spectacular foggy night
My mind too is foggy
With blips of music
And thoughts shimmering
Through the mist

If I had more faith
Then I would have less fear
And without fear
I am free
But for now
Uncertainty masters my soul
Even as I plan
A freedom run

Yet in these days
I have found strength
In familiar voices
Inspiration to do good
From hearts that are one

Yea, I shall call myself silly
One day
For this folly
This lack of bravery
Even these tears

Perhaps my bones grow too weary
I have traveled long
Yet I still have a path to go

The Pursuit

I'm hoping that no one could see and you knew that was true
I'm dipping lower than I thought and all I want is you
I'm grasping at my own heart and screaming it to stop
I'm tossing out my own love in exchange for a drop
of something better
I'm not the girl you wanted me to be

I'm crying as I stare at a rainbow from my yard
because the beauty I once saw is now something so far
The colors just mean nothing they could be black and white
I used to have so many things that were so worth the fight
for something better
It's not the world we wanted it to be

If there is something better, if there is something more
Why have we all just given up the life we're lookin for?
We all just want the same thing, pursiut of happiness
We all deserve a hand to hold and never nothing less
than something better
and never nothing less than something bet

Southbound Dog

Two boys from Europe - yeah, they must be tourists
It’s too warm to wear a cardigan

Thin man with a beard – that’s Marlboro red
On his hat - not Maryland or Michigan

I’m just thinkin’
Takin’ one day at a time
Pocketful of emptiness, quarters and dimes
And the Southbound Dog keeps on rollin’
And the Southbound Dog just keeps rollin’ on

Sweet young girl holding fashion magazines
Somehow makes you feel she needs protection

She must have secrets on the inside of her eyelids
She’s been readin’ them all morning – reading them all morning

I’m just thinkin’
Takin’ each day as they come
With a bag of simple clothes on a road marked US 1
And the Southbound Dog keeps on rollin’
And the Southbound Dog just keeps rollin’ on

Nine passengers and the driver
Don’t know the life I’ve left behind
We’ll soon run out of road, and have to drop the load
The clothes, the change, and you still on my mind

Snow on Lenox

Beneath a breathe of eider & velvet,
visions & dreams disturbed

He whispers...
look outside my love,
A pleasant present just for you

It’s snowing on Lenox

A serenade of snowflakes
all for you to adore

At this moment angelic, but
Is the world standstill ….or…..was I dreaming?

This I ponder for days…..

Then,
There is a reminder
Of flickering flames and guitar, a melody for memory
Rosy cheeks of endearment say…..
Come outside with me love
It’s snowing on Lenox…

ok this poem is written in an idea of a person who hates joy and people who spread them in this world are fakers.. pain and evil is the real deal because it is honest and straight to the point about pleasure with no consequences.. put this character in your head and see it in his point of view.

Two miles away,
the vile angels make me stay;
at their realm filled with con artist,
teach me the dread for death

In the world of dagger masks,
worn by the enemies dawn and dusk;
Blinded by a warmth that burns my dead wound,
yet silence crept in my soul till i saw the black moon;

It's shadow lights shone to soothe,
with no agony and pain I learned truth.

pleasure is a sin,
learn to hate;
dont force just grin,
and accept dark fate.

REALITY CHECK
How do you know whan things are real?
How can you tell? Is it how it makes you feel?
What is the truth that lies deep within?
Lots of good people run anround and sin
Where is the brotherhood with its unspoken vow?
Where do I find comfort?I'd like to know now.
Who can you trust, when everyone lies?
What a mess we are in, why even try?
I stand all alone and look up to the sky
I yell up to nothing, to just tell me why
I ask and I ponder if He hears me up there
Please send me a sign and show me you care
Then the breeze blows across my sun reddened face
Now feelings of love, the saddness replaced
I get on my knees and thank creation and all it has been
Then head homeward bound, and start over again.

triumph

sometimes I wonder
how life can be so good
when you’re single and alone
with nobody to hold your hand
while you walk down empty hallways
thinking you have no meaning
or no sense of purpose at all.

while most of the men and women out there
are busy spreading their legs and pounding flesh
you sit at home and wonder why it’s not you
who seems so satisfied with being in love
but we’re all afraid of something
so you’re best to fear nothing at all
because the only love in life that you need
is piece of mind in being who you are.

which is not to say that you’re above them
because nothing is wrong with finding love
but one must not let longing control them
lest they wind up tired and remorseful
rather it is better to understand
that not everybody can be complete
you must accept your lonely misfortune
and enjoy your (disappointing) triumph.

The Glaring Light

There was a cold glaring light
It's aura was incredible and magnificent
It was cold and damp outside where the light existed
Thorns surrounded the edges of the beautiful light

The light was shining so brightly my eyes turned a cold color
It lit the night
The leaves blew te leaves in a manner
That it seemed like they were dancing happily

The dancing was so unlikely that it began to scare me
Like they were being controlled by a unusual force
All of a sudden the wind started blowing so hard
The light had suddenly gone away

Every night in my dreams I dreamt of that peaceul and beautiful night
It was so simple yet so powerful and magical

take my heart
and turn it black,
despite the love it lacks

take this heart
and kill it now,
then maybe you'll understand how i felt

i tell you now
my darkest vow.
let my sorrow take me over,
like you did when you weren't sober.

take this soul
and crush its hopes
along with its ability to cope

close your eyes to see the black
what lies beneath is the faith i lack

screaming inside,
bleeding on the out
i will die here,
alone with my fear
crying in the dark
my black staked heart finally breaks

i bled for my sorrow
i bled for my freedom
you cried for me
i died for you.
maybe now you can see,
just how selfish a person can be

it seems really depressing. what do you think i should fix to make it more poectic, and less psychotic.

thanks!

it doesn't seem
to come out right
i thought you wanted the pizza
i thought you wanted the pencil
i thought you wanted the tattoo
i thought you wanted the S.W.A.T. team
i thought you wanted the five star hotel
i thought you wanted Bush
i thought you wanted the diamonds
i thought you wanted Atlantis
i think i should stop thinking
but where else could you find somebody
to be obsessed with what YOU want??

If I had a picture
I'd buy a glass frame
So I could break it

If it was raining
I'd hide the umbrella
And lock the door

If I had money
I'd buy a new house
With only one key

If I had a cold
I'd cough and sneeze
Without a tissue

If I had hemlock
I'd water it
And put it in a vase

If I was crazy
I'd commit murder
And get a lawyer

God's Anjel
Written by Semper Fi Reborn

Out of destitution and strife,
Is born a delicate rose.
With wisdom and purity,
To share.
Where would we be without you?
To watch over us,
God commands you.
As a faithful servant you come forth.
You bow before our God of Heaven,
The Everlasting Amen!
The Living Church has given you wings.
Fly over the Earth,
Bring My people unto me, saith the Lord!
Amen! By Your Will O' God,
Replies the Anjel!

Fear not, the Lord is with you.

Mourners

Final prayers have been said.
Hugs given, tears shed.

Their pieties performed, they turn to go,
Yet everyone among them has to know
That they'll be back again another day
But will not have the skill to walk away.

In the prison population,
There is an ebb and flow.
Get to make a friendly association,
Shipped out! they go,
To some other, penal location.

Pad mates they come and go,
Two forced,to talk in friendship.
But at times, you'r glad of this relationship,
That out shipped, they go!

But some are missed, for their conversation,
Their happy smiling jovial mood.
To have a pleasant and adroit assosiation,
Does, make the heart feel good.

wasted time

Somewhere in the vicinity of the Earth,
Where I will not hear, not a single sound.
I keep this flame of bitterness and hate,
It will keep me warm til my dying day.

Burning the candle at both ends,
One less flame awaits the dawn.
Living in a world of what has been said,
All that I know is I feel cold and dead.

Seated on the edge of all that is left,
I am but an empty shell full of regret.
I stand and I watch the remains of my soul,
Mixed in with anger to form a crimson flow.

You know that you wasted all of your life,
Please, just this once be honest with me.
I'll take it back, all the waste that is mine,
Just do what is right, and claim all you own.

I will keep all of the pain, a token of our hate,
Became my sin, my blade to pierce my skin.
Free from the damned, that pulls us both down,
Covered with blood, what will become of us now?

Angry and alone, with nowhere left to turn.
My insides heating up, my heart begins to burn.
Frustration flowing through my veins, spreading hate and madness.
The madness changing to a scream and then turning to sadness.
The small glass box in which I live just shatters to the ground.
I lie there bleeding, suffering, and no one hears a sound.
The world just keeps spinning and I pray that it will end.
The mask I wear falls to the ground. Why bother to pretend?
A candle flickers next to me. I stare at it with doubt,
And with my one last gasping breath, decide to blow it out.

Scylla and Charybdis

Be there any more dismal abyss,
Than that of the monstrous Charybdis?
Have there been some lucky to escape
The whirlpool formed from her mouth agape?

What horrid and more fantastic beast
Is there, than that feared Scylla released?
With her six heads, never to be ceased
‘Til each, had a mortal for a feast.

That fearful strait, with the dangers placed,
Where only those foolish or brave graced,
Proved deadly for the ones ill-prepared,
Grave site for them, that for danger dared.

Does this gauntlet of trials exist,
The mighty Scylla and Charybdis?
Neither in the seas or on this earth
Rather, in fearful souls seeking worth.

He doubtless did his best;
How softly sinks his trembling sun
In human nature's west!

Does this poem mean that "everything happens for a reason"?
If not then does anyone know of a poem with that meaning in the "Time and Eternity" section of her collection?

the mentor

used to feel completely useless
like the appendix in your gut
and now I fake my confidence
trying to make my dreams come true
supposing age may do some good
making bad days a tad shorter
friends a bit less interesting
and your memories less fonder.

there was a time when I felt that
I needed to have many friends
now realizing that people are
little more than large distractions
I feel disappointed in them
and I see why you chose just one
that doesn’t mean we can’t be friends!

you can be my humble mentor
teach me how to really appeal
after conquering the aisle
we’ll talk about our marriages
entwined with different people
but devoted to the same thought
and I’ll repay in gratitude
you’re not getting anything more.

That is the link to the poem. It is a parody of the White Man's Burden by Rudyard Kipling. The writer of Brown Man's Burden is Henry Labouchère. Please, if anyone can, give me a brief summary, and analysis of what the poem is about. ANYTHING helpful would be appreciated. MAIN QUESTION: how and why is it a parody of White Man's Burden?
