Poem of the Virtuous One who has one more night to live.

'Do not regret the past,
do not fantasize about the future,
the past is already gone,
while the future has not arrived.
We can only grab onto the present moment,
carefully observing what is in front of our eyes,
without rocking and rolling fro side to side.'

Agree/disagree with the poem?

I just can't make the connecton between infantile anal behavior and adult behavior. Anality seems to be a big thing in understanding art. I just can't make the connection.

Close your eyes, think of someone or something (existent or non-existent) that you cared for very much, smile, and say "I Love You". Care to share who or what and why? HAPPY NEW YEAR to everyone!

The Earth rotates in 24 hours to make a day.

Without the Earth being in existence, you cannot say something took a day, because there was no Earth to create the day.

I believe that this metaphore reflects the fact that God created Earth in what would be equivalent to seven days to "God".

It's all relative, seven days to God could be 7 billion years to man-kind's perception of time.

Just as 24 hours is a day to humans, 24 hours is 100 years or a lifetime to a fruit fly. It's relative... so, tell me how God made the Earth in 7 days before the Earth was completed to be able to actually make a day?

Is it 7 Earth days? Or 7 days to God (billions of years to us perhaps)?

We are told that the unit of time is seconds or is it? But long time ago there were no clocks or calendars, yet there was time. The concept of time and how it relates with the human mind and life in general just overwhelms me. Is time a man made phenomenon?
Could someone enlighten me before time runs out on me!

If I turn on a light switch, I'm using electricity (bad) and lighting the room (good)
If I pluck a flower for my girlfriend, I'm killing the flower (bad) and making my girlfriend happy (good)
If I kill someone, I'm satisfying my urge to kill (good) and I'm committing murder (bad)

i'm not trying to be all emo on you guys, but i've been reading irvin d. yalom lately (founder/expert on existential psychotherapy).

the idea is that because we all know that we will die, that there is no obvious meaning to life, and that we must go through it all alone, people often find romantic love to ease existential pain.

but when this happens, the love "caves in on itself."

My question: how do you tell the difference between regular love (which seems to have its share of heart-ache) and love which exists to ease existential pain?
