If you can learn something new everyday,
find enjoyment in the simple things,
let loose a good laugh when opportunity strikes,
see the good in others and yourself,
then you are not wasting your life. . .

Because I am happy within myself and the opinions of others matter less when a person finds that level of oneness. Never did have much use for people that were more interested in the clock and punching it than they did the things that really matter in life: home, family, peace of mind. I know what I do might irritate others that have no understanding of my philosophy, but part of knowing myself and being at peace with that person is the ability to say 'GET A LIFE FOR YOURSELF AND LEAVE MINE ALONE!'

If you are concerned that you will make a wrong choice due to the opinions of others, those ones giving you the guff about spending time wisely, take some of that time to go off alone and do some logical thinking. Are you happy or content with your life or do you hate it, your job, etc.? Is your family life a good one or can you do something to improve it? Is your wasted time hurting someone, such as yourself, a family member, society, your boss or a girl or boyfriend? Do no harm and let no others harm you.

Learn to allow yourself to feel comfortable with who and what you are. You may lose a few friends along the way that cannot deal with this attitude, but there will be others to take their places and the ones that stuck with you are the best sort of friends, the ones that are comfortable with who they are.

The idea of wasting one's life is a complicated one. Most of us lack to potential to accomplish great things, either because of some genetic deficit of intelligence or charisma or because of less-than-fortunate circumstances. For most people, wasting your life means spending it unhappily, doing things that aren't worth remembering. A good test is to imagine yourself ten years in the future -- what memories will you have of the present?

For a select few, people born with money, luck, talent or raw brainpower, wasting one's life is a different matter. They have the potential to change the world for the better. These are our Einsteins, our Stravinskys, our Truffauts, our Teslas. If they had wasted their lives -- by not following their dreams and ambitions, by giving up and resigning themselves to menial work -- the world would suffer for it. For these people, a good test is to think about whether they are applying their potential in the best possible way: does their work fulfill them, excite them, could it better the world?

The difficult part is that there's no way to know who's in group A and who's in Group B, and who is in the middle. Everyone gets the idea, when they're a kid, that they should follow their dreams, but for most people, chasing dreams is a waste of time. It's only the select few for whom it will pay off.

The future memories test is pretty good, but it involves the assumption that you're not a genius.

I like the answers I skimmed here. I'll read the rest some other day.

I think about this question all the time; I am constantly wondering whether I have just wasted all my time. I think you know by giving some thought to what you will consider a waste and what not, and then try your best to act accordingly.

To follow our bliss is to already live a fulfilling life in the truest sense, and whatever happens as a result in the next moment is actually immaterial as whatever we create is actually transient, what lasts is what we have created within us, an infinite space for light within us.

So when ever I am feeling joyous, I know that in those moments that I am not wasting my life in fact am leading a joyous life, and that is the sole purpose of every soul choosing to incarnate here on this planet to find more bliss under various circumstance. That is why at our core we all simply want to happy and joyous and when we are we know it inherently in hearts.

That is why the best guide to a happy and fulfilling life is following our intuition, which really is our inner bliss in action.

Now is a good time to figure that out for yourself, since the new year is approaching. Take a look back on what you did this past year. Did you change anything about yourself this year, or are you the same as you have always been? Did you try new and different things, or are you stuck in your old ways?

The test is very simple..... whatever you do for yourself is waste and the rest that you do is utilisation of human life. This is the only reason why we can be considered superior being. A bigger and better brain or more supple fingers or erect stance or even ability to emote etc. are only differences in degree compared to other species. What makes us superior is the sublime happiness we get from doing something for others.

It depends on the stages of life. If you are a student then the main time should be spent on studies, in case of an office manager, he must work for the prosperity of the employer, if a housewife, you have to look into all works in the homefront. If a student spends time on watching TV for most of the time, an office manager gossiping with his friends at office, a housewife sleeping most of the time, then these are wastage of time.
