There was a book I read in High School about the Titanic. I believe the stories were fictional, but it did list the meal plans, and the names and ages of the passengers. Anyone know?

I am looking for a place where you can download or read books online. I am not looking for places that have ONLY classic books. I like reading modern books more so than classic books.... If anyone can help me, I'd appreciate it

I've already had the thing rejected 30 times!! Which is a lot less than Stephen King when he first started writing. I think a particular weak spot is the synopsis, it's rubbish and it can't give a good impression of the novel. Has anyone got any experience in writing a good one? There's always the possibility that the novel's just crap, but I'm going to give it a fair shot first before dumping it and starting another one, it's taken me 10 years!

I absolutely love The Story of O, Rice's Sleeping Beauty trilogy and The Marketplace series, but everything else I've read in this genre has fallen short of the intense dominance/submission these novels have. I need something new to read! Any suggestions?

"i lose myself"

by my shadow i lose myself
and what i once was
i am no longer
and i almost can’t remember
what i was once upon a september

my voice sounds strange to me
my thoughts - no longer what they used to be

by my past self
i am a total stranger

i am different now
i have forgotten any past piece of every broken vow

who am i?
who are these strangers around me?
once i knew, now i have absolutely no clue
were there only lies, was there anything true?

i feel as if waking up from a dream
reality threatens me and in its face i scream
and i veil myself
or i put on another mask
and i disappear gently in the falling dusk

to recreate my past self
is now impossible
all those sensations
are now dust spreading in the windy storm

It would be great if you could write a sentance or two next to the book in brackets about what its about.

Now I was emptied of any feelings. A few months ago I was sinking into day-dreams full of desire... I had a need to see him, to hear him, to talk to him. Not now. It was as if I had been tired of these feelings, drained out of all energy for this desire. Tired and fed up. If I had been next to him now, I wouldn’t have been able to talk to him, I would have probably curled up like a cat when she needs sleep and put my tired self to sleep. It was strange for me to realize I was feeling nothing at all. I was too tired even to think about him during the day. In a way I felt a little disgusted with myself above all. How could I say such things, how could I behave in such a way, how could I accept to spend time with him? I couldn’t remember. It was someone else who did all those things, not me. In the meantime I had become someone else and perhaps it was a good excuse to move on and leave everything behind. Feelings, memories, man and all.

I had known for about a year now about his dark past. A past he had been hiding from me. I never cared about that really, in a couple of months I had discovered everything anyway... But I felt I could forgive everything and even did that. I pretended not to known anything and excused all his lies. I never brought up my knowledge of his dark past. I thought it would have been embarrassing to him and maybe it would have ruined everything we had for over one year...

I could not feel any jealousy, as I was analysing myself. I didn’t care about his former flames. All that mattered to me was the here and now, no matter how little it lasted. I had no pretense for it to last long...

...And now... where was it all? All the feelings which have made me feel alive? Perhaps I only needed to take a break from it all and then resume it.

i cant stand books. i feel that books like aldous huxley's brave new world. they create this paranoia. same with eric blairs book 1984. the biggest problem isnt big brother, its you. I think people focus too much on externalities. People won't achieve enlightenment by being involved. ex.
from an mathamatic standpoint, you influence the society you live in more by grocery shopping then voting for president.
So why are books that deal with this paranoia so popular among the youthEspecially these new age yippies.
What do you think?

in the harry potter books, i read that ron repaired his wand with "spello-tape". i thought this was just a clever name, until i found out there is really a product called "selo-tape" in the UK.

i have both american and english versions of the books, and in the american versions, when the non-magical tape is referenced, it is called "scotch tape". (magical version still called "spello-tape.)

so...i was wondering...when j.k. rowling talks about "gringotts", is there a real bank in the UK with a fairly similar name that she was making a play on words with?

thanks!
