Does anybody remember the name of a children's book, Victorian-themed, Claire or maybe Clara's House? It had little paper dolls and had cupboard and door you could open, but wasn't a pop-up book exactly. Anyone know the name??

I'm looking for a book that is a little more unique than the basic Bestsellers List lot. From the top of my head, movies which I enjoyed are Donnie Darko, Fight Club, Versus, Virgin Suicides, Cruel Intentions and The Beach, so anything along those lines would be very helpful.

i am not a poet or anything it just question!
eternity

i lie in bed @ night & pray,
that you will think of me.
i cry until my eyelids close,
and dream--eternity.

i wake to sunlight on my face,
for a moment i forget.
then a cloud passes by,
and i realize, this is it.

i carry on throughtout the day,
feigning joy, and feeling pain.
i long to gaze upon your face,
and share a smile, and embrace.

the day is drawing to an end,
and still i think of you.
i try to relax, yet in my mind,
i wonder what to do.

so now i lay me down to sleep,
i pray the lord, my soul will keep.
and should you chance to think of me,
know that i love you---eternally.

there is a time in every man's education when he arrives at the conviction that envy is ignorance; that imitation is suicide; that he must take himself for better, for worse, as his portion; that thought the wide universe is full of good, no kernel of nourishing corn can come to him but throught his toil bestowed on that plon of ground which is given him to to till. The power which resides in him is new in nature, and none but he knows what that is which he can do, nor does he know until he has tried. Not for nothing one face, one character, one fact makes much impression on him, and another none.

This is my problem: I always start out with a really great idea; a good beginning and end, but I struggle horribly with the middle of my story. I've been working on this for years and I am in need of advice... any ideas on how to make the body part of my story smooth(er) sailing?

The Yahoo site is filled up with teens and others who think they are writing poetry (they are usually writing rhyming verse and there is a HUGE difference between that and real poetry). These kids then post this stuff on Yahoo Questions (a violation), asking everyone to tell them what they think. When they get a critisicm and are told that what they are writing isn't very good and that they need to take steps to make it better (like reading the masters) they get totally bent out of shape and then report you for violation of "Neither Question or Answer." Indeed, the answer was an opinion and generally, most of the stuff on here is really bad (poetry). If you don't want to hear both good, AND honest critique, then DON'T ASK! Whenever you put your owrk out there you are going to find that not everyone likes it, and when you ask for advice, don't get mad when it's NOT what you wanted to hear? Some of you want your egos stroked, apparently. Don't REPORT when you get an honest answer!

Why?

My favorite is Lullaby. Survivor was my favorite, and is still up there, but when I went through and read his books over again I found Lullaby to be the most balanced between sadness and humor. There are some really heartbreaking chapters in it, as well as some pointed, biting commentary.

Do you know in the first few pages? Or do you stick it out for a couple chapters? Or do you keep reading, just out of sheer stubbornness, all the way to the end?
