"The Calm Before the Storm"
An old man of sixty-three,
You lost your wife young,
Now you have only old Jack,
Your fifteen year old black lab.
You look out at the Long Island sound,
The waves lap up against the shore.
You know it's time,
Time to take the old girl out,
Adventure has inched it's way into your blood,
Slowly taking over.
You look around at the cabin,
You have your lines,
You've got a gun.
Jack is sitting patiently waiting.
It's time to go out to sea,
To see the waters,
And feel the breeze.
The sea will be your grave today,
You can feel it in your bones.
It's calm right now,
But you know,
The calm comes before the storm

I'm looking for a good translation of "The Epic of Gilgamesh" to read just for fun. I usually enjoy the Penguin Classic translations, so I was thinking about picking one up. In this case, the translator is Andrew George. Has anyone had any experience with this version that can compare it to other translations? I'd like to read it mainly because i'm just looking for a good epic tale, but i'd like to learn about it as much as possible too, so if there's a better version (eg. if George's version leaves out a lot of details for better readability), if you could tell me about it, that'd be great.

I remember that...I think in the first chapter of "A Christmas Carol"..Charles Dickenson wrote a funny comment on the phrase 'Dead as a Doornail'. I can't remember the exact quote, though. Can anyone tell me what the quote is?

The precocious protagonist of Bless Me, Ultima, Antonio is six years old at the beginning of the novel. Antonio is serious, thoughtful, and prone to moral questioning, and his experiences force him to confront difficult issues that blur the lines between right and wrong. He turns to both pagan and Christian ideologies for guidance, but he doubts both traditions. With Ultima’s help, Antonio makes the transition from childhood to adolescence and begins to make his own choices and to accept responsibility for their consequences.

It's a science fiction novel about an alien invasion of earth. Part of the invasion involves terraforming the landscape for their use. A pink foam (or snow)-like mold substrate is planted. In addition there are some kind of carnivorous bunny-like creatures (they eat people). I read this book a long time ago and it was one of a series. I also remember a chapter near the end where one of the main characters has a car crash and the bunny creatures attack him.

As a kid I read a book about a little witch that had to go live with her evil aunt who had been banished to a glass mountain. The little witch explores the glass mountain while her aunt is away and discovers a mermaid who lives by a river inside the glass mountain. They become best friends.....

Anyway it was a neat story and I would love to get it for my daughter but can not remember the name of it.

All help appreciated!

What is your favorite book, be it fiction or non?

Why is it your favorite?

Please don't include the Bible, Qu'ran or any religious text. You may include books written about the religious texts, however.

Thanks...I'm just wondering!
