Nicholas Sparks is a formulaic writer. In other words, he uses the same type of characters, plot and style in every "novel" he writes. I interviewed him a few years ago and when I mentioned to him that I had loaned his novel to a friend of mine to read, his response was, "Don't do that!! Make her buy the book! My kids need shoes!!" I thought that was uncalled for, especially as he had sold the film rights, had already completed three bestsellers and I'm certain, HAD the money to buy shoes for his kids.

I'm reading his book three weeks with my brother. This is a description of a 3 week trip around the world, but it also is like a biography of his childhood. It is so interesting to read about how he got started as a writer and what his influences were.
