I remember that...I think in the first chapter of "A Christmas Carol"..Charles Dickenson wrote a funny comment on the phrase 'Dead as a Doornail'. I can't remember the exact quote, though. Can anyone tell me what the quote is?

Yup, the 1st answerer got it. I'll add only that it's Charles Dickens, not Dickenson. (There IS an Emily Dickinson - great poet)
