Avoid poetry.com and vanity publishing. Try to get published in a magazine, or try for some contest, but do lots of research to make sure you don't get scammed.
Try doing some of your research at http://www.pw.org/
Good info there.

Firstly, avoid poetry.com. It is a scam-- EVERYONE wins their contests. People have sent them absolute gibberish, and poems about how much they hate poetry.com, and everything ends up a finalist as long as you have the money to pay for an anthology.
Self-publishing, like lulu.com which is a great service, can be an alternative if you only want copies for your friends and family and don't expect to make any money from it. I'd suggest waiting on this until you have checked out traditional routes.
The first step is the check out the book Writer's Market, or to take a look at their website at www.writersmarket.com. It has a huge database of magazines, publishers, and websites that are looking for writers, and you can search to find outlets that are looking for the types of poems that you wrote.
I'd also suggest trying to find a copy of their book Formatting & Submitting Your Manuscript. It's my number one reference for cover letters and page formatting.
Every publisher has different requirements, so you're going to have to do your research! And don't be discouraged when you get rejection letters from some of them-- this happens to EVERY writer and it just means that you're working hard and putting your writing out there. It's not easy, but if it's what you want then you can do it!
Happy writing!

If you're still in school, your school might have a litterary magazine, and there are contests in the newspaper that if you win, you could get it published in a book that sells as a regular book does, you could pick it up at the nearest book store, that's pretty cool. But if you want to go BIG or want you're entire works done, you have to look up a publishing company that publishes begginers. Find yourself an agent. There are also places that will bind and publish your book for a fee, but they don't sell it or anything, you just get how many coppies you paid for. I'm not sure what the names are of these companies, but a search or phone book/ newspaper would do you good.

You can try self-publishing. Check out Lulu.com. They will print your book for free. In return they will make an agreement on the royalties. It won't cost you a cent and if your book sells, you'll also make some money.
Even I am going to publish my poems. Currently I'm working on the design of the book.
you can visit my blog http://360.yahoo.com/rishikaysh
Poetry.com is another place where you can exhibit your talent. Last year I won one of their competitions. If your poem is good enough, they will choose to publish in their anthology. However, there's a catch, you'll have to pay to order your copy of that anthology (collection printed in a book form). So recommend Lulu.com if you want to see your poems in book form, without paying a cent.
I've posted a few poems on my blog. I would like to read your poems too. take care.
wish u luck.

Tough question. Your best bet might be to spend the twenty dollars on "The Writer's Market"
