For school, I am writing a fake letter as if I'm an Irish immigrant who came to America (around 1847), back to my fake Irish family. I'm suppose to tell them of my journey...
So, what was the journey like for an Irish immigrant coming to the U.S. back then? Like, they got on a boat and then what? How did some come legally/illegally, etc? What was it like once they got there? Where in the states, did most arrive?
If you have details/ideas that would help, I'd be grateful if you shared them!
Thanks! :)

When people lie, it is not a mistake. A lie is a thought before it is stated.

Now, 2 + 2 = 5 is a mistake.

BUT, to say I am going to the park, when in fact I am going to the beach, is a lie, right?

Your view?

Hi, well to make a long story short, my parents aren't letting me do colorguard for my junior year. I've done colorguard my freshmen year and marching band during my sophomore year and during those two seasons, my grade average was above a 3.5. I think they're mainly concerned with SAT's but they also think colorguard is a waste of them. I've been trying to convince them that I need an extra-curric. activity because colleges like it if you have an "outside life" other than just focusing on school work. However, my parents don't think it's worth sacrificing grades for colorguard, even though my grades are fine. Does anyone have any suggestions to help convince my parents?

Here is the first paragraph

In every darkened corner, in every terrifying dream, in every movement he made, Noah Gifford new that he was trapped in a world of unfriendly coldness. The face he saw this time was different. The head on which it appeared was severed off from a deformed, mangled body which was hanging from an old oak tree, like a limp still born child. Flesh wounds were screaming with unsightly blood. The one and only thing that stood out the most to Noah was that the eyes were gouged from the head which was swinging back and forth from a rope that was tied to a single tree branch. What Noah did not know, was that the dismantled figure he was looking at…wasn’t really there.

Tell me if i should finish the book.

I am a high school drama teacher looking to direct an evening of Halloween horror short plays. I am trying to write my own stage adaptations of Poe stories and am having difficulty. I would prefer an entire evening of Poe, but other QUALITY short horror plays would work as well. It can't just be a reading of Poe because I need to involve a larger cast than that.

My question is: what book does the Yuzhang Vong invasion start in and what book does it end in? I'm trying to avoid those books and the ones in between, if possible. I'm up to the Lost Ones in the Young Jedi Knights.

I have been studying and reading about the Old Republic for the past year or so, and have recently begun branching out to the New Republic. I had read a book that talked about the Yuzhang Vong (spelling is wrong), and I thought they were so disgusting that I haven't read a book past the Galactic Civil War until now.

Your help is appreciated!

My bf really enjoys Harry Potter books and "really thinks I'll like them".. problem is I really don't think they're cool. Not my style of entertainment what so ever.. Should I give it a chance? What are your opinions about the books?

`m not talking about the creationism vs. evolution debate. Thats been over with for quite awhile. We have the fossils, Dna, Controlled experiements, age of rocks, to prove Evolution is the way to go.

I have heard there is a debate within the scientific community about Natural selection. They are not in disupute that life evolved - rather they debate about what role natural selection plays in the evolutionary process. Some say it is the motivating mechanism - others say it`s not. I don`t know what is the arguement on the other side of the debate. If natarul selection is not the motivating mechanism then what is? If you could please explain to me the other side of the debate among biologist I would appreciate it!

Yes I`m aware this is a biology inquiry. I tried posting it over there with no sucess. Hopefully my fellow philosophers can help me out on this one?

I have bought the three month world deluxe package and I have to say that I'm very happy I did. However I'm having trouble tracing back a woman who was born in 1833. I know her first name is Lucy and her middle initial is A. And from the 1880 census I know that both her parents were born in New Hampshire as was she. She was married to a man named Charles F. Waite (my great great great grandfather) who served in the civil war on the union side. I know he was born in Massachusetts as were his parents. And their residency during the census was in Lynn, Essex, Massachusetts. Can Someone please help me find out her last name, or more importantly where her family came from?

And for additional information they had 5 children by 1880. And all but one were born in New York.

every seven years since the day you are born every cell from your brain to your bones are new, none are the same as before, so if physically everything you are made of is differnt from when you are born how are you, you? and does this prove that you have a soul and that is what makes you you?

My gandmother was from a Cherokee tribe, but when she was alive, it was not a good thing so she didn't want to leave any trace of it. There are no government records of her that I can find. I have read that only males can prove this but I am female. Is this true? If it is possible to prove, how can I do it?
