She didn't say she was killing two characters, she said that she killed two that she didn't originally plan on killing. We now know she was talking about Tonks and Lupin - my favorite characters. =''(

There was something about this in her interview on The Jonathan Ross Show

I remember her saying this!!! Umm well Voldemort and I'm guessing Snape. WELL, if you consider Harry's "death" actually dying then I would say that. She would do that just to leave our minds racing and wondering and then hanging after reading.

Here's the list of all the characters who died... snape looks like the best bet:Here are the rest:

Fred Weasley
Mad-Eye
Dobby
Lupin
Tonks
Tonks's father ted
Hedwig
Bellatrix Lestrange
Snape
Voldemort
Scrimegour(sp?)
Wormtail
Colin Creevy
Nagini (Voldemort's snake that is a horcrux)
and about 50 other people JKR didn't say the names of
.. AND i think that's all=]

I would say that the two main characters who died were Voldermort and Snape although it felt like more to me since so many other (Dobby, Fred, Lupin, Tonks) also died.

This was kind of a ploy. J.K., her publicist, etc have a job and that job is to make a profit. To make a profit you run a great marketing campaign to draw people into HP mania so that they buy the book.

To say "two main characters die" is an intentionally vague statement designed to whip you and other HP readers into a frenzy - uh - which it apparently did.

You have every rite to be a little let down!

Well, from what I've heard, Harry, Hermione, and Ron made it to the end without being killed.

Snape died, though, as did Dobby, Fred Weasely, and many others.

Sorry I couldn't be more informative, but I hope this was helpful.

A lot of main people died. Moody, Lupin, Tonks, Dobby, Snape, Fred. I might be forgetting a few

Probably Voldemort and Snape. He's the only other one I'd really consider a "main" character.

i did wonder about that.
it'll have to be voldemort and snape.
although i consider fred to be a 'main character' too, meaning (for me) someone who's been there since the first book.

i just hope that nobody that hasn't read the book is reading this question, but she might have meant harry, he dies, even if he does come back to life, after all, she didn't say the characters would be dead permanantly.
