My voice sounds very much like a guys voice, and if i try to make it higher, it sounds VERY bad. I'm interested in acting, but I don't know if i can do anything with my voice.

I don't think it will be a great impediment-- Kathleen Turner has always had a husky sort of voice. I think as you get older, it will be a great benefit because that sort of voice seems appropriate to older female characters especially in comedy or if the character is supposed to be tough (like someone's overbearing mother).

In some ways, you have a better chance - it's the difference that makes you stand out. To use a more recent reference (the ones by other posters are great) think of Laura Prepon in That 70's show. Her voice is deeper than Ashton Kutcher's, deeper than most of the men on the cast.

If you're doing stage work, as long as they can hear you in the balcony don't worry about the timbre. Vive la difference!

Of course you do have a chance. Hollywood has always gone for people with distinct looks, personalities, and even voices. Jodie Foster was characterized as having a really deep and strong voice. Joey Lauren Adams' voice is still original and "different" with its breathy tone, and strange pitch. Many classic movie star femme fatales were embraced for their "sexy deep voices" which epitomized the ideal tone of voice for actresses of their era, and beyond.

The best thing you can do for yourself is to find an acting coach, and/or voice coach. They will help you to have a clearer voice and better acting style. Good luck to you!

What does the timbre of your voice have to do with acting?

Acting is feeling, and portraying, different characters.

Be more concerned with Acting, and less concerned about your voice's pitch

Of course you may have good chances in the acting business with that guy-ish voice of yours.

All characters and characterizations, may be used in the acting business.

But those who may express themselves in a special way may be assigned special roles which they may fit quite well because of their inborn skill.

As we believe that it is your inborn skill to have that voice of yours, we think that you may have good chances in the acting business.
