You will get some rubbish said to you about god etc but basically no-one knows why we exist or what our purpose in life is - there's no instruction manual for life. I just think we happened to evolve into more intellectual beings than intended and because we find it hard to come to terms with the fact that we all die, then we start to look for answers and that's why people turn to religion. Not that I believe in it - I'm a realist. There's no point in looking for answers - just live life to the full and be a good person.

To live, as a apples purpose is to be eaten.

How do we know we exist? Who's asking. You asking that question proves consciousness therefor you exist.

Sorry I can't make it any clearer than that, but I don't think there is one answer little own a correct one. Maybe there is none. It is as much as a mystery as where we came from, to where that came from, to where the creator of that came from.

Sorry.

Your question requires a Creator/God. Evolution is a mindless process that cannot give purpose any more than a weather system can give purpose to a raindrop. So reproduction cannot be a purpose.

“Unless you assume a God, the question of life’s purpose is meaningless.” –Bertrand Russell (philosopher, mathematician, Nobel Laureate and atheist)

So if real purpose is your question, then you have to seek God. People will say things like, "live your life the way you want to, and choose your mission", but if they're just making up things that make them feel good about themselves.

People who think they can make their own purpose are really talking about feelings of self-worth. We can make feelings for ourself but there is no reality behind the feelings. So if you're speaking of just getting some feeling, there are psychological techniques to do so. You can even get good feelings from a pill.

Why do we exist?

If we have faith in the existence of the Supreme Being, then God's first desire was to love someone. Therefore, our true purpose for existence is in love for God, the Supreme Personality of Godhead.

What is our purpose in life?

Our purpose, as human beings, is to make the best use of human existence by learning more about God and how to reawaken our loving relationship with Him.

I believe that we are here to be tested and to grow. We are a breath, a wisp in the time line of the universe. Yes there is a beginning and end to what we live in here. In time the universe in what we see and can witness will end. Every star will eventually burn out, all galaxies are getting further from each other except for those which are merging from gravity. But ultimately, all suns will cease. The end of the universe is that in which is without light. So we have to come to terms with what is before us. We know we are more than this world, we call can feel it. We might not even know this or affirm it. Many people deny it out of fear and lack of understanding. SO why are we here?
To speculate as a human - to be tested. This existence and the universe that I mention has an end. If we can exist, that means we can exist again. Self-awareness is evidence of our eternal natures...we are more than physical.

From a faith perspective - to be tested. My religion and my faith has taught me to look for a higher set of governing rules from God and this in which we live in, this is his creation. He has something much larger for us and we can not even begin to comprehend it.

We exist, because we all have a untold mission.
You live your life the way you want to, and choose your mission.
Your object is to make this world wonderful and more beautiful.
When your mom came to leave you at school the very first day, she never told you to become a doctor.
But you grow, and choose you subjects, and you eventually become a doctor.
The same way , we are born, existing , because we are all on a mission.

I know this is sounding i'm like super religious or something, which i'm not.I'm Catholic but i'm not crazy or anything. But I think life is just a test to see if we can get to heaven or not, then if we do get up into heaven finding the answer to life is our reward for being good.

It's a tough question because there is no single answer. It is different for everyone. No one can truly tell another person what their true purpose is, we have to find it for ourselves. Some people believe their purpose in life is to help others, some believe it is to obtain wealth, or knowledge, some believe that they should dedicate their lives to a particular religion. Not all things work for all people. I can only know what my own purpose is, for anyone else, you will know it when you find it.

Your purpose is to thoroughly enjoy the planet that God gave you, to leave it the same as you found it or better.
If you want more than that, each man individually has to find his/her way (purpose).
Mother Teresa, Abraham Lincoln, Alexander the Great, etc. asked the same question and never got the answer. Maybe you'll have better luck.
