Hi, well to make a long story short, my parents aren't letting me do colorguard for my junior year. I've done colorguard my freshmen year and marching band during my sophomore year and during those two seasons, my grade average was above a 3.5. I think they're mainly concerned with SAT's but they also think colorguard is a waste of them. I've been trying to convince them that I need an extra-curric. activity because colleges like it if you have an "outside life" other than just focusing on school work. However, my parents don't think it's worth sacrificing grades for colorguard, even though my grades are fine. Does anyone have any suggestions to help convince my parents?

Just be patient and do not pester them by asking them or trying to convince them every day. A friend of mine had the same problem with her mom. she was a good student and a fantastic Guard member but after awhile she was so tired with doing both that her grades went down. her mom was on her back all the time. she had to bring home progress reports signed by her teachers and made her stop practicing at home. she was so sad but her mom said if she didnt bring up her grades them she had to quit, regardless of anything she has done. well for the next few months she managed to ask her friends for help with studying, go to tutoring everyday and even brought her GPA up. a few months later she asked her mom if she could audition for Officer. she tried her hardest and all of her friends backed her up and her mom let her. she was a great co-captain and graduated *** Laude and will be going to a nice private University next year. promise your parents that you will do well and tell them that you wouldnt work so hard to convince them if you didnt committ to it. If you love guard then you have to show them artisticly and academicly. Now get to studying!

Color Guard is totally a sport. Why elce do they call it sport of the arts? Color Guard is for all people of any size there are big, tall, short, thin, etc. That's one of the coolest part about guard because every member is different but that doesn't make them any less important. To be in color guard you have to have stamina and trying to catch those rifles and sabres is alot harder than it looks. Also it isn't worthless or pointless if it is something that makes you happy and feel good about your self. It is one of the few sports you can do where you can feel beautiful, strong, elegent, and have passion for all at the same time. One more thing color guard is based of of stuff in the military. Rifle spinning for instance.

I would probably stop asking them for awhile. This might make them a little less anoyed wiht you. What I usually do is make a deal with them. Something like...if I promise to do.....then will you let me? But you have to build up a good arguement and that sometimes takes time! Just asking isn't going to work. Hope I helped!

Well, for starters i would not only promise to keep the 3.5 GPA, I would promise to TRY to get it higher ( I bet you can if you apply yourself)... everyone needs extra curricular activities to stave off boredom... bored kids usually get into trouble...... dont pester them too much, but do keep trying, because this is something that is important to you. Good luck!
