I feel like my introductory paragraph is wrong. What are some improvements to make to flow/sound better?

Who nearly starved to death about 160 years ago? Who traveled deep into the wintry mountains only to be trapped by its stiff arm? Who, according to author C.F. McGlashan, “contributed the truth; truth that was sufficiently terrible”? To these questions there is but one answer: The Donner Party. From traveling west to find fortune and expansion, these pioneers used their will and brains to survive the journey. Despite the rumors of cannibalism and cruelness, the Donner Party remains one of the most well known groups of pioneers who were resourceful and brave.

You might enjoy this one or you might not
We will go over the waterfalls swimming like we’ve never swam before
Over the mountains we’ll find our dreams make them come true and live on free
Nothing will stop us no not a thing so keep on singing like an angle without any wings
And I bet you that the stars will come out shooting off like a bullet and disappear right through the night
So come, come with me I’ll show you the way will go our distance to find the trail that will make us fly will glide right along into the sky
And yet you see it will just be you and me
So come along will go over the waterfalls swimming in the crystal clear water
And over the mountains will find our dreams make them come true and live on free
And yet no one is stopping us and it just you and me so come along with me

I have heard it said and it seems to be true that love is an act more than an emotion. If this is true then you can love even those you despise with an act of good will. Do you think this is true and advisable?
