Therefore, like the Roman and Aztec imperialist states, they have gobbled up territory of adjacent nations to directly control resources and converting the conquering civilians second class citizens. What's your position on this view?

some instances America does fit the mold of an Empire, but other cases it does not. An empire is a state that extends its control over areas of diffrenent cultures, wheter directly or indirectly.
(directly usually its control with military or a members of the imperial country. aside from Iraq, most coutries we control are not nessesarily for raw material.
or indirectly, by manipulating politics in that area)

but aside from that politically America is not run like an Empire. The Roman Empire, British Empire. we do not have Viceroys that run around running the country single handedly with our emperor that is taking in reports about what the viceroy's country is doing and producing. we have a democratic system in the U.S. and it is hard to maintain an empire if there is a new person in charge all the time

Not a real empire.
A real empire would take over the government of country we take over. If we were an empire, Japan and Germany would be speaking English right now. It is easy to throw about incomplete annalogies like this to defame the United States, but honestly, we are the possibly noblest state when it come to war fare as I am aware of. When the USA blows up your country we are nice enough to rebuild it and give it back to the people instead of enslaving the citizenry and appointing ourselves as the governing body.

Normally, I'd have a position. But I can't move now that I've been trampled by about 100 Mexican nationals running across our southern border.

I'd like to see the reports that suggest the US is an empire. Lacking that I can make no rational decision simply based on your paraphrasing.
