American foreign policy needs to change its tone and attitude, open up, and reach out. The Bush administration's arrogant bunker mentality has been counterproductive at home and abroad. My administration will recognize that the United States' main fight today does not pit us against the world but pits the world against the terrorists. At the same time, my administration will never surrender any of our sovereignty, which is why I was the first presidential candidate to oppose ratification of the Law of the Sea Treaty, which would endanger both our national security and our economic interests.

A more successful U.S. foreign policy needs to better explain Islamic jihadism to the American people. Given how Americans have thrived on diversity -- religious, ethnic, racial -- it takes an enormous leap of imagination to understand what Islamic terrorists are about, that they really do want to kill every last one of us and destroy civilization as we know it. If they are willing to kill their own children by letting them detonate suicide bombs, then they will also be willing to kill our children for their misguided cause. The Bush administration has never adequately explained the theology and ideology behind Islamic terrorism or convinced us of its ruthless fanaticism. The first rule of war is "know your enemy," and most Americans do not know theirs. To grasp the magnitude of the threat, we first have to understand what makes Islamic terrorists tick. Very few Americans are familiar with the writings of Sayyid Qutb, the Egyptian radical executed in 1966, or the Muslim Brotherhood, whose call to active jihad influenced Osama bin Laden and the rise of al Qaeda. Qutb raged against the decadence and sin he saw around him and sought to restore the "pure" Islam of the seventh century through a theocratic caliphate without national borders. He saw nothing decadent or sinful in murdering in order to achieve that end. America's culture of life stands in stark contrast to the jihadists' culture of death.

2 years ago I was an exchange student in another country. For the first 5 months I lived with a widow and her daughter. I must be honest an say she was good to me and that she is a good person. I was still very much emotinally messed up back then.I can also say I was still immature and very unhappy at the time.I never wanted to admit to myself or others I wanted to go there just to escape from home and not relly to learn the language.I am ready to admit it now to whoever needed and I am ready to apologize to her. Basically,I asked my agency to find me a new host family and I had no reason to do it.I told the house was too cold or something, but in fact the whole problem was in my head.I was also avoiding her for the last 2 days and I could see she was hurt, but I left without saying goodbye and she wasn`t there when I was leaving.Sometime later I saw her on the street and said hello, but she just passed me by.I feel like trash and I can`t forgive myself. I feel I need to apologize, but how?

Isn't it becoming a tired old hypocracy instead of a modern democracy?

No one ever asks "Should we be a republic?"

Because the people (and candidates for office) who proudly remind us "we are a republic" are the very same people who say that government is so bad. The politicians will never be accountable anyway. And things like that.

This is not 1708 folks. It is 2008.
Do we really need to be a republic to have a democracy that is "the people governing themselves"?

We have such different technology now, are we even really governing ourselves anymore?

It seems like we have Government-by-mark eting-strategy rather than "Government by the people" now.

Is a republic still the best form of democracy we'll settle for?

A republic that is only, (self-admittingly), only good for Big-business and War?

Do the people who ask questions only taking into consideration atheists and Christians not know that there are other religions and religious positions than these two?

I mean it's not like they are polar opposites or even the majorities either, so why the focus on these two groups?

Were your actions (or inactions) partially to blame? I've read that guys usually cheat for the sex & women cheat for the emotional side. Is that true in your case? So, looking back, is there anything you would have done to change things (so the cheating wouldn't have happened)?
