this is bad? I called my boss and told her and now I feel paranoid and think that they are going to fire me.

My sister started a job a couple weeks ago, then got mono and strep; she went back yesterday finally. I think it just matters who you are, to be honest, how much the majority likes you. That's what it seems to be. If it'd been me at her new job at her age, they'd've warned me before I even took off. Well, then again, that place didn't hire me at that age, and probably still wouldn't. See, it matters....

Good luck.

Times are getting tough so please don't quit abruptly. You should always keep your eye out for jobs elsewhere and do apply for them but stay where you are at for now. Sounds like a little office politics and there are books you can read to study that. Do as you are supposed to. Find out everything from your direct boss, the one who is in charge of you. Find that person and any questions you have then that's who you go to and when you do go to them, ask them directly what your chores are and thank your boss each time your boss helps you. Don't worry about everybody that works there, just do what you signed on to do. Act like you don't care if you go out to lunch and you'll be going out to lunch because there is a lot that you can do to make your job appear more important by the time lunch is over. The boss will be happier and your coworkers will be wanting you out of their way.

You cannot get fired for being sick. It is your commitment to the new job and to being mature and responsibile that makes you feel guilty. You should not feel paranoid about taking a day off for illness, despite you being new on the team.

Rest up and get charged up for your return. when you get back, be ready for anything that they have as extra work or special projects. Show your dedication by giving your full attention to the team objectives and to excellence. Your fresh and energetic spirit will brighten up the room and you will gain respect from everyone for returning with new enthusiasm.

Best of luck.

I don't believe the standard that is set by most people (i.e. if you just got a new job don't call off until you've worked there for a year or whatever). If you're sick you're sick. No one should go to work if they're not feeling well. It results in loss of productivity.

No offense, but if you were that sick, you wouldn't even think about going on your computer. Take some cold medicine. If you're really concerned about your job, see a doctor or call their office for a note,if possible without seeing the doctor, so your manager will know you were truly sick and not just blowing them off as a new employee.

Not a way to show a good impression. You are on a 30,60,90 day trial. You can be let go in this time frame for being absent. If you are really sick I would get my but down to the Dr. and have him\her write you a note stating you are sick for your file at work. If your not really sick I would get my but to work and tell them you feel better.Unless you really don't need this job??

usually you have a 30-90day period where you aren't suppost to miss anydays but if you are sick and the boss said ok don't worry about it they know that people get sick and stuff happens wether you just started or have been there a while, just try to make it to work everyday and not miss too many days

Well my reasoning is, if you can type at a computer, while sitting up, you can go to work. If, for instance while at work, you announce that you may not make it for the rest of the day and it is evident, it probably would have made more sense.

Get yourself a doctor's note to bring in when you return to work.

I'm sure they won't fire you. You're already sick so don't get worse stressing yourself out. Rest and take care:-)
