Last night I was walking my 8 month old cattle dog on a route I always take when a Staffy Bull Terrier came from no where at a hundred miles an hour ready to attack both of us. I managed to pick my dog up in time (as he is only a puppy and thinks all dogs want to play with him when he meets them) but the stray dog then jumped, snapped and snarled, scratching my legs and torso determined to get to my dog.

I managed to kick and knee the dog in self defence and some teenagers came to my assistance and managed to divert the dog into another direction.

My question is, did I do the right thing, should I have just let this dog try to rip mine apart, or could I have done something else?

It is my first experience with an attack of this sort, so I am trying to get ideas of what I should do if it should happen again. I am going to start walking with a piece of wood/stick, but given the dertimination of this dog - I am not sure it will ward a determined dog off.

My husband and I would like to adopt an infant. More specifically, we live near a maturnity home and there are lots of pregnant mothers that live there who would like to have their child go to an adoptive family. We have contacted several agencies and the costs are outrageous (between $7,000-12,000) and if we are going to pay that much we would much rather give it to the birth mother. So theoretically here is what we would like, if possible (this is where you come in, is this possible?): We contact the maturnity home, let expecting mothers know we would love for them to interview us and see if we are what they want for the parents, offer $5,000 or so to them, pay for all legal fees, and then eventually adopting the child. Can we just go to a lawyer instead of an agency? Do we have to do classes (homestudies, etc) or is that only if we go through an agency? Would this way be quicker? I know I can probably find the answers somewhere else, but this is just preliminary. Thank you!

My friend has has epilepsy since childhood. A few years ago he suffered a Grand mal seizure. He is now in his late 40's. Is it possible that this has caused him to withdraw from any intimate contact or any display of affection?

Across the U.S., classical music seems to be a slowly growing as a method to combat crime in urban cities. Just recently I read a article about how the city of Hartford, CT wants to play music in Barnard Park in hopes of getting rid of the drug dealers and hookers who hang out there. What do you think of this idea?

How convenient for at least the two teams mentioned below in a new Yahoo posting from Rivals.com:

Hawaii (11-0) is 12th in the BCS standings this week. A non-BCS league team is guaranteed a BCS spot in two ways. One is if it finishes in the top 12......

........No. 4 this week is Georgia, which is ranked 10 spots higher than Tennessee despite two things: 1. The Vols beat the Bulldogs in their head-to-head matchup; and 2. The Vols won the SEC East ahead of Georgia. A team that doesn't win its conference title is guaranteed an at-large spot in the BCS if it finishes in the top four in the standings.

Cleaning up after the Thanksgiving festivities, you have a bucket of ammonia solution in the kitchen. Your little cousin comes in and pours her glass of cranberry juice right into the bucket of ammonia. To everyone's surprise it turns from bright red to blue as it hits the ammonia.

Being an astute chemistry pro, what would your explanation for this curious observation be? Can you think of a way to really impress everyone by turning the solution from blue to red again?

I've been trying in the past and for some reason I really do not seem to get it. I think classes are out of the question, so websites, tips, anything would really help me out. Thanks so much!

Cont,
Why does the ministry still allow hawker centres and public restaurants to sell their rice and soup and hot soya bean water in plastic thermos containers? And sell packets and packets of hot food in Polistyrin packets. These hot food can release Dioxin a cancer causing agent. Surely should some one go for cancer treatment at Govt. Hosp, the Govt will be spending lots of money on the Patient.
