I've been trying in the past and for some reason I really do not seem to get it. I think classes are out of the question, so websites, tips, anything would really help me out. Thanks so much!

Hi Gabby,

I am a new member, also. I have been knitting about 3 years - started with scarves but now knitting socks and loving it. I agree with the first response....www.knittinghelp.com is a great site to be able to actually view how to cast on, knit, purl, increase, decrease, bind-off, etc.

When I started knitting a bought a book at Wal-Mart - "I Can't Believe I'm Knitting!" This book really helped a lot.

Have a great time learning this enjoyable craft!

Knittinghelp.com

I learned how to knit in 1 day on that site because it gives videos for it - and that was about 3 weeks ago and I've been knitting up a storm ever since!

I learned to knit from library books. They have a lot of really good ones in the craft and hobby section. Keep at at it and don't give up . just make a small square to start of the garter st which is plain knitting. When you finish that then try knit 2 purl 2 which is used on cuffs and is called ribbing.

You may want to find out if there is a Knitting Guild in your area. They may have dues, but usually you can go to one meeting and see what it is about before paying. Dues are usually minimal. Members in the Knitting Guild and Crochet Guild in my area are very nice and helpful. Here's the website for The Knitting Guild of America:

www.tkga.com

Oh yeah - all the websites that people mentioned before are good too. Knitting is a visual thing and sometimes it is hard to learn out of books. Good luck!

There's a great dvd out there called "The Complete Beginner's Guide to Knitting" by Nici McNally. It's around 11 dollars at AMAZON. That's how i learned. The dvd even pauses for you to complete each tutorial.

It depends on where you live. If you live close to a Jo-Ann's Sewing and Crafting Store, they have classes you can sign up for.
