a practicing and unrepentant "gay Christian" cannot possibly exist - a clear contradiction in terms

Its perfectly acceptable to be gay and Christian. Jesus, being the prophetic voice, and the itinerant Rabbi he was sat with sinners, tax collectors, Samaritans and others that the mainstream religious people thought were unworthy, or "unclean"His life is filled with examples of revolutionary actions including sparing a woman from being stoned, overturning the moneychangers in the temple, healing people on the sabbath, and forgiving his enemies. He bears witness to a concept of God, and he lives out his concept. His concept is of a loving, merciful, and deeply relational parent who he affectionately calls "Abba" or Daddy. He illustrates God's unconditional love in parables as the Good Samaritan, the Prodigal Son, and the Shepherd and the 100 sheep.

In fact, in Matthew 8:5-13, the passage where Jesus is asked by a centurion if he will heal his servant. Interestingly enough, the word doulos usually translated as servant is not used. However, the word pais, means boy/servant. Its quite possible this is referring to a junior officer posing as a same-sex partner that was common in the Roman military.

And lets not forget the loving relationship between Ruth and Naomi.

It is absolutely all right. The few texts in the Bible which seem to address this issue are taken out of context and completely misinterpreted. People today have no idea what "abomination" meant back when the Holiness Code was written. When the King James Version of the Bible was being produced, the interpreters ran across a Hebrew word they didn't recognize, and had no idea what it meant. After some consideration, they decided the word must mean "effeminate," even though there was no evidence whatsoever to suggest that. Anyway, check out these sites:

Sure, a Christian can be gay, but it is not alright.

Now, I'm a very conservative evangelical in my convictions, and I can honestly say that anyone claiming a gay identity and a Christian one at the same time certainly is decieved concerning how they see their sexuality. Of course, when Christ redeemed us, He redeemed the total man and woman from their sinful nature, not just in certain aspects of our humanity. We were all sexually fallen, straight, bi, gay, lesbian, & trans-whatever, and anyone who comes to Him is no longer to be identified as such, even though one still may due to improper education, or just plain stubbornness. This is why it's incorrect for anyone who was "straight" before coming to Christ to continue to call themselves such, because our sexuality is no longer about ourselves, our selfish desires, and who we are attracted to. Rather, our sexuality is now about who we are going to serve with it within the marital framework that our Lord has created for us, between one man and one woman, regardless of how we previously expressed our sexuality in our self-centered, spiritually dead ways.

Having said this, I must admit that if I was placed in a position to guess who's "in" and who's "out" (thank the Lord that's not up to me!), I couldn't honestly say that just because some Christian would jump up and down swearing by the Bible and the Lord Himself that he was also "gay", that I would have to count him out. Why? Because the Lord says we will know them by their (pardon the pun) "fruit", or behavior; not their "root", or self-identifications, whether they be in line with the Scripture or not. I know many alcoholics who claim to be both Christian and alcoholic, and they may at times even relapse!

Most evangelicals would say, "Yep, they're 'in'." And, I know those who wrongly call themselves "gay", because of the sexual proclivities of their flesh, but refuse to live a life of sexual promiscuity, maybe having slipped up a few times, if not conduct themselves in a chaste manner. Now, many evangelicals would say that because Christ is in the business of transforming His people, and these gay-identified folks aren't regarding their sexuality, that they would be considered "out", yet leave the misleadingly self-identified alcoholic Christian off the hook. This is not consistent at all.

I believe it is alright to be homosexual, as much so as being heterosexual or favoring the color blue. I also think it is alright for homosexual people to practice any religion they choose.

It is a non issue to me.

I believe being a Christian has nothing to do with who you love romantically, but everything to do with how you treat others.

Being Christian or following any religion is questionable as there is no evidnce that any of them are "truth".

I wouldn't question being gay.

People who are deceived believe it.

1 Corinthians 6:9-10 Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God.
