I have been reading Pride and Prejudice but have halted with some dissatisfaction at the chapter in which Mr Darcy makes his proposal of marriage to Elizabeth. He tells her that he has no regrets about breaking up the romantic liaison between Mr Bingley and Elizabeth's sister, owing to her sister's low social status. This is by implication a social reflexion on Elizabeth herself. And this he admits and expresses himself surprised that he has fallen in love with her and is willing to damage his social status by marrying her. I cannot believe that anybody would have the crass insensitivity to expect such a proposal to be accepted. It's not psychologically plausible without assuming a truly pathological degree of conceit that goes far beyond the plain and everyday 'Pride' that the title suggests. I greatly admire Jane's psychological insight and social commentary but Darcy's proposal is psychologically incredible. Or am I being imperceptive and obtuse ? Or just misreading the text ?

The following ad was placed on a craigslist wanted section in my town:

Hi! I'm holding an experiment. One that tests the goodness and generosity of humankind. I am asking anyone who reads this to unconditionally give me a dollar or more, if you're so inclined. I will gladly come to you to collect. That's it. You see, I'm in the red and must defeat my bills in order to provide a more comfortable lifestyle and environment for my family. Don't get me wrong, I'm no effortless bum or public leech. I'm a hard working warehouse man with many creative ideas but unfortunately am also living paycheck by paycheck, week by week. I'm trying many things to overcome this financial burden. One being, faithfully reaching out to my fellow man and putting your souls to the test. Plus, one never knows until one asks or tries. So here it goes. Thank you for your consideration. Take care and be well!

Why is it that people think they are entitled to get something for nothing?

Usually in these cases there is one person who drives while the rest of the passengers fire the guns. Does the driver get a murder charge as well even though he did not physically fire any weapons?

I really like (maybe even love) my best guy friend. (I don't want to say his or his friend's name on the internet, so I'm gonna call him Bob and his friend Fred) And his girlfriend broke up with him about 5 days ago. I really wanna ask him out, but I don't want it to be too soon. Ya know what I mean? Well today when we awere walking to realated arts I walked up beside Bob and started talking to him, then Fred said, "Hey Makenzie, do you like Bob?" Then I said, "Yea." Then Fred asked me about 3 or 4 more time, "You do?" And I kept saying, "Yea." Then Fred said, "Do you want to go out with him?" Then I said, "Yea, but he never would." Then we had to go into different classes, so we didn't finish talking. [[Me and Fred]] Me and Bob have both related arts together and he was ascting completely normal. BTW, when me and Fred were talking Bob was standing right there and heard the whole thing. Do you think that Fred was asking me out for Bob?

My friend has this EXTREMELY annoying song stuck in her head, and it goes something like this:

Here we go around the pony
Round & round that big fat pony
Here we go around the pony
This is how we do it!
Front to front to front my baby
Back to back to back my baby
Side to side to side my baby
This is how we do it!

If you know, please tell. HELP!!!

I been hanging out with this guy for about 6 months now. I met him in a class this summer and we started studying together. He asked me to go out once, but I couldn't find a sitter so I couldn't go. After that one time, we would only study together. During summer II, we had another class together and he ended up being my lab partner. We started spending more time together. He would buy me lunch and give me rides home even though I lived really far. During the fall, we don't have anymore classes together, but we still find time to hang out. We talk every other day. How can I tell if he likes me or he just a really nice guy?

in the bible jesus says:
"Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven."
from what i know about the size of camels, they are rather large mammals. and from what i know about the eyes of needles, they are very small. an ant probably couldn't pass through the eye of a needle let alone a full grown camel. this must mean that it is impossible for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. but how can this be? the bible tells us that it doesn't matter if we're rich or poor, sinner or saint, all we have to do is accept jesus as our savior and we will be saved. is this not a contradiction? what does the bible have against rich people? what if you're rich, but you're doing something beneficial to society with your money? is it still easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle?

I think I'm going with Kerry. I don't want Bush to get a second term.

This is the new 'highlight' of the day for the morons at 2:30 when the blasting normally occurs. These jackas ses set their calendar reminders so they can all get up and look out the window… Then they all give the 'ohhhhh & ahhhhhh' as if they are watching the World's Fair firework finale after the blast takes place..

Even worse, they talk about it all day & they get upset I don't watch and ask me - "Why are you not going to watch the blasting?"..

Anyone have a nasty, wicked, witty response?
