I frequently hear Christians tell me that I made a choice to be an atheist, and a bad choice according to them. But now that I think about it, nobody really chooses to be an atheist (unless they were brought up by atheist parents, but that's different).

Consider this: most atheists disbelieve in god because of an overwhelming lack of evidence, and because of education and understanding of our world and universe. In other words, it is the inevitable conclusion from available information, and no matter how much we want to believe in god, we cannot.

Sure, we can call ourselves Christians and pretend, but deep down, we can never really believe. It's as hard for me to believe in God as it is for you to believe in unicorns, or to disbelieve that there is a chair in your bedroom right now. We simply cannot believe in God because our own common sense and rationality will not let us, no matter how much we would like to.

Does the squeaking mean my brakes are nearly shot or does it mean anything else? I have a 98 Honda Civic HX 2-door with 90,000 miles on it.

If there's nothing wrong with the squeaking is there anything I can apply or do to stop the squeaking?

It's not a question of ends, it's a question of means.

Either government's role is not merely to protect and preserve liberty, or it is to usurp it, to trample on it. You cannot possibly draw distinctions among the ENDS for which it may do this - because (1) those distinctions are subjective - they are merely the ideals that any individual might have, and (2) ALL such proposed objectives will simply be represented as "for the children" or "for the good of the whole" - those phrases become meaningless (they already have) and pretty soon it's just a feeding frenzy, people become less focused on creating wealth than on taking it from others, and then there is less to go around.

Freedom and wealth creation go hand in hand, folks.

the king of three winters grow in the forest so dark there lies a spark.

Soft and tender is my step to the old woman who has wept for the things
she has not kept. The forest is unforgiving for those among the living
but there she sits at the singing spring defiant to her fears and still

Curious eyes watch in sorrow for none know what brings on the morrow.
I kneal in the fern in the moon's glow and feel the tear trickle below.
She cradles the warrior like a child deep within this forest so wild.

Limb to limb, root to root I dance but not once did our eyes meet to
chance. In the moss they search for what is lost, their way distorted
and amiss to find a place like this.

Rustle the leaves for my whispers are free. Her sobs tell of the soul
the gods have robbed, brave he must have been this warrior she cradles.

Silent feet lead me close within the shadows of her soul.
