that is a sound when the brakes are low and need to be replaced; don't take your life and the life of others on the road lightly; better to have them checked out then something worse; invest the money for your safety and well being

Yes you are correct and right on the money. It is time to a replacement on the brake pads, and depending rotors too.
Have a mechanic inspect or you can purchase a Do It Yourself Repair Manual for your vehicle and inspect your brakes yourself. You will need to purchase or borrow tools to do this job.
Parts for the pads should be around 50 bucks I think, and rotors would be 90 bucks per rotor.
If you dont feel that you are adequate or feel confident in your work, please dont do them.
Brakes are important, I dont want you smashing into the back of me or side, or front, just because you did your own brake job.
Oh and guess what I found a thread and linked it below. Hope it helps.

if your pads arent worn then chances are its the material the pads are made from. im a ase certified mechanic and in my experiance a metallic pad is 75% more likely to produce more dust and produce more noise than a ceramic pad. you may try a can of break cleaner to knock the dust off of the rotors and pads. this isnt always a quick fix though. so all in all...if you can live with the noise dont worry, probably nothing wrong. but if you want a super quiet, ultra low dusting pad... go to your local parts store and request ceramic pads. theres prbably only a 5-10 dollar price differance but in the long run you will extend your rotors life due to lesser harshness of the pad and will enjoy a smoother quieter ride. i have been of assistance.

You should have the pads checked by a mechanic. If they aren't worn out, ask him to put something on the back of the pads to stop the squeaking. He will know what to use>

More than likely your brake pads are getting low and are need of replacement. This should be done ASAP to avoid rotor damage.

you need to get them looked at by a professional if you don't know yourself because you don't want your brakes to go out which could be dangerous for you. try taking them to a shop or friend who knows what they are talking about first and if they say they're good try autozone for brake pad oil. and your problem should be resolved.

Sounds iffy. Get your pads/discs checked ASAP. It could mean your pads are worn away so it's the metal backing plate that's grinding on your discs. Hope this helps.

Generally speaking, squeaky brakes means you need new brake pads.
