...example: I like it when people talk about themselves...I enjoy hearing other people tell me their "life" story. I "like" people who talk a lot, I like people who don't worry about my needs, I like people who have a "ribald" and "fearless" sense of humor, I like people who light-heartedly insult me, or question my motives...
So if I applied the "Golden Rule" to these things...I would run into serious trouble, because what I like people to "do unto" me, is "Not" what they would like done "unto" them...
Can you think of a similar situation in your own life where the "Golden Rule" does not apply...? (where I grew up, light-hearted insults and sarcasm was a sign of affection, and so I like it when people are light-heartedly insulting or sarcastic to me...)
